Cy Falls vs Elsik
NOT READY TO FALL
Let me set the stage for you. Undefeated Cy Falls, the TABC #1 ranked team in the state was visiting Elsik, who had lost only one game this season, against Katy Taylor, and was ranked #13 by TABC. To top that off, they whipped last seasons Region 3 runner-up, Bellaire, on opening day at home by over 30, so an upset was there for the taking. It was just one problem, Cy Falls wasn’t buying into it. After jumping out to a 10-0 lead, the Eagles never looked back and with Atascocita losing to Katy Taylor, Falls is the last area unbeaten left in 5A.
Sedalia Ellis led the charge as she did a little bit of everything as the Eagles extended their lead at the half to 24-9 as she scored 14 points and dished out 3 assists, so she accounted for 20 of the 24 points as she appeared to be somewhat of a magician with numerous steals and made everything seem like a blur, even this picture.
Coach James Stephens has been quoted as saying Falls doesn’t have any superstars, they just play hard and he’s exactly right because even the players off the bench came in and kept the intensity going. This team has some weapons and since I gave them the name “Da Bomb Squad” Macy Moore lived up to the billing, opening the last quarter with back to back three pointers and the rest was history. The ironic part is barring an upset, these teams meet again on Friday at Seven Lakes in the second round of the Katy Tournament which features several ranked teams in the state, check out the Events tab for various Tournament brackets.
In other games, Katy Taylor is still wearing the glass slippers as they knock off Atascocita. The “Taz” was ranked #2 in the state by TABC, so Taylor has knocked off the #1 and #2 teams so far this year, they beat Hightower in the Fort Bend Tournament and you guessed it, all three are in the Katy Tournament. North Shore defeated Cy Fair, yep, they’ll also be in the Katy Tournament, while Clear Springs knocks off Dekaney.
