I am Courtney Williams
I wanted to do a story on the kid I consider the best player in the city and that player is Courtney Williams from North Shore High School.
A case could be made for other players such as Cassie Peoples or Amber Orrange or even Rachel Mitchell, all are listed on various Top 100 rankings across the country and are great players.
These four have also committed to major D1 colleges, Orrange to Stanford, People to University of Texas and Mitchell to Texas A&M. These three will sign in a few weeks however Courtney will have to wait until next season since she is only a junior and will join Mitchell in Aggieland.
I saw Courtney play in the seventh grade and right then I could see that she had “it”. She did things not only effortlessly but instinctively and if you watch the video on front page, you will see exactly what I’m talking about.
She is 6’2, can play any position on the floor, very well I might add and she’s a coaches nightmare in trying to dream up a defense against. She can shoot the three with ease, she can drive around bigger kids, post up smaller kids and she’s always thinking pass first, which is why she runs a lot of point. She’s one of those kids that simply make everyone on the floor so much better.
I asked Coach Allison Campbell her thoughts on Courtney and she said “She is the complete package for a guard. Her size and athleticism are amazing. She also is a GREAT team player who is always looking to pass first. She really is a joy to coach because she is very humble and a super sweet kid. I am extremely tough on her, but she is coachable and really works on her game daily”. Well, that should definitely help get her ready for Gary Blair at A&M.
