Can Ozen Be Overthrown?
JORDAN HOSEY
Scanning the TABC top 4A teams I see four remain undefeated and they are No. 1 Beaumont Ozen (28-0), No. 2 Dallas Lincoln (26-0), No. 3 San Antonio Brennan (31-0) and No.6 El Paso Chappin (29-0). For area contenders No.6 Manvel and No. 7 Barbers Hill, the good news is only one of those teams are in their way for a run to state, the bad news is that’s it’s the No.1 team and defending regional champion Ozen. You’ve probably seen me write several times about how Jade Castille put the Mavericks on her back last season to take them to their first regional semifinal and you’ve also seen a line or two on how Brianna Turner and Jordan Hosey would bring an added dimension on the inside for Manvel but with all that being said, is that enough? Ozen has been tested, in fact they knocked off one of the area’s top 5A teams, Clear Springs and that in itself says a mouthful since Clear Springs has a better chance than most to represent the region in Austin. Barbers Hill is also a contender, as well as Foster but the trio of Kendall Shaw, Shannon Evans and Mackenzie May know this might be the last real opportunity they have since Shaw and Evans are both seniors. Foster is on the outside looking in which may work in their favor and the addition of Alex Laperoyle to go along with Lexi Featheree, who by the way could have flipped the spot with Manvel’s Castille because Featheree squad lost to Manvel 36-35 in the game that decided who made it to the Final 4.
