Blue Chips Keep Working And Improving
TIFFANY ARCENEAUX
The thing I always stress is that I look improvement in players and the “Big Three” of the Gulf Coast Blue Chips, Tiffany Arceneaux, Jayla Calhoun and Faith Cook, have shown me that over the past two seasons. Arceneaux (Dayton) and Calhoun (Summer Creek) have improved so much that I’ll stamp D1 on them both right now. Cook still has a year left before entering high school and although some lists floating around may not have her listed as one of the top young players, Public Enemy made a song a few years ago, Don’t Believe the Hype, so just substitute the H! The Blue Chips have had an impressive run so far this season and with the improvement of Shandovar Young (Summer Creek), Tavia Marshall (Kingwood Park) and Kayla McKee (Dayton High), this team is a couple of pieces away from being a major player in the area because the game starts at the one.
JAYLA CALHOUN
I had a chance to ask the “Big Three” some questions, here they are. Tiffany and Kayla you were both Newcomers of the Year last season which means you handled the transition from middle school to high school well. How much did club ball prepare you for the transition?
Arceneaux- Summer ball helped me with the speed of the game. It made my court vision wider and helped me make smarter decisions
Calhoun-Club ball gave me the training and floor time I need to compete at the high school level. My coach called it maturity and confidence.
I asked Cook this question. Before you hit high school your name is already being mentioned as one of the stars of tomorrow, at least by me, the others will catch up later. Do you feel any pressure going from middle school to high school and do you think watching Jayla and Tiff adjust will help?
Cook-No I don’t feel pressure, I am just very anxious! I think from watching Jayla and Titi adjust will help me because I was able to see how they handled it. Also, I think they would give me advice and support to help me with everything I go through during my High School career.
There it is!
