Big 12 Division Tip Sheet pt 2 -Border War 2021

BAILEY BURNS

Here is part 2 of my Big 12 and American Divisions combination of some of the standouts that I PERSONALLY saw at Border War 2021. One more time, I’m constantly looking and moving and I just don’t have the time nor energy to find out who a player is unless they are just going completely off because with over 700 players……

Bailey Burns (MO Phenoms 16U Amanda) created her shot nicely under pressure to either attack the rim, she finishes strongly after contact or take the pull-up jumper and that midrange was smooth and consistent, Factor in she played the passing lane as well as applied pressure on defense

Tyrina Stanford (MO Phenoms 16U Amanda) used her athleticism nicely on both ends, attacked with either hand and showed she could knock down the long ball

Christina Laudan-6’0 PF (Fusion 2023) she stands at “the magic number” which is good and she battles for everything which is great but she also finishes strong and showed she could knock down the midrange

Khamille Warr-5’9 PF (Fusion 2022 White) she’s athletic and rebounds strongly and finishes the same way yet she also creates her shot nicely and dropped the mid to long-range with ease with her pull-up jumper

Avery Simmons (MO Phenom 15U EYC) long and athletic with UPS and watching her DELIVER time and time again after elevating over players for rebounds, putbacks and jumpers, only to show me she also used it to block, alter and deflect shots

Kaylynn James (MO PHENOM 15U EYC) also showed those skills of elevation as she finished not only strongly but effortlessly at times. She rebounded on both ends, ran the floor, and showed she could handle the ball and attack the basket

Abigail Smith (SA Lady Hoops 16U) left me speechless with her performance because she has the size and showed power attacking and finishing but the mid to long-range was also impressive as well as her rebounding and defense

Zaadiyah Stovall (SA Lady Hoops 16U) watching her follow the ball off the rim made me smile because she is long and athletic, elevates quickly to block shots and she ran the floor on both ends but she finished, either attacking or after putbacks and showed she could face the basket and score

REESE BRITTAIN

Reese Brittain-5’7 G (Competitive Edge Elite) not only did she have the Move Of The Day to help close out day 2, but she also showed the HEZ, she creates her shot under pressure, and has a true pull-up jumper from mid to long-range

Tyanna Simpson-5’10 F (Competitive Edge Elite) if I gave I picked a Most Improved squad, she would be on it and passing by her court watching her drop back to back turnaround jumpers on the block had me sit yet her pull-up jumper, rebounding and attacking the rim all stood out

Keimauri Brown-6’0 W (Arkansas Bandits 16U) there were several players that set defenders up nicely to attack the rim and many used different ways but her first step is explosive and observing her leaving defenders standing numerous times was nice, so were her finishes

Oliviya Tinoco (MO Phenoms 16U Kerr) let me start with long and athletic and also add that’s that base, it’s all about repetition to help the novice understand yet under this, she plays the passing lane, she defends baseline to baseline and she finishes strong yet her seeing the floor was nice too

Kyla Clark-5’9 PG (BCS Thunder-Ayers) long and athletic, handles the ball well under pressure and slices to the basket with ease but when you throw in her acrobatic finishes, her midrange and her playing the passing lane, she left a very good first impression

Mahalia Twine-5’7 PG (BCS Thunder-Ayers) SWB is an acronym I use for SPEED WITH BALL and she can go baseline to baseline under control and make the right pass yet she also understands how to control the tempo as well as score off the dribble

Grace Slaughter (MO Phenom 16U EYC) one of those players that gave me a lasting first impression a couple of years ago and she has gotten taller, stronger and is dropping the long ball deeper than when I first saw her play plus she’s taking defenders off the dribble to finish

Jordan Speiser (MO Phenom 16U EYC) not only can she shoot the ball from deep consistently, she was one of the best “catch and shoot” players I personally saw but she also created her shot under pressure and showed the midrange
