Big 12 Division Tip Sheet pt 1 -Border War 2021

MADELINE HOLT

Before anyone says “hey you forgot” this time I didn’t so I’m combining the American Division with the Big 12, I move around fast at Big events hoping to capture as much as possible and to give as many players as possible exposure which is why I’m usually off to myself trying to get in the zone yet with all of the long ball shooters I saw, I quickly had to adjust but not only did I enjoy the TALENT, I saw a ton of COACHING which took me back

Alexis Barkus-5’6 G (Wheat State Speer 2023) 2025 I always use this line “it’s not what you DO, it’s who you do it AGAINST” and often it goes over the heads of many but it works for me on evaluating talent and the upside, poise and playing under control all caught my eye as well as her understanding how to get hers in the flow

Megan Spray-5’9 F (W Kansas Elite 2022Cossman) created her shot well under pressure and dropped the mid to long-range numerous times. Her shot is fluid, release is quick and she does it with accuracy but she also did a good job attacking the basket

Mataya Clark-6’1 P (W Kansas Elite 2022Cossman) agility around the basket, finished after contact, nice hands and footwork but her rebounding, on both ends, running the floor and defending yet her UPSIDE is definitely a huge plus

Madeline Holt (Team 10 16U) HOLT gave met a BOLT because she turned up the VOLT because she attacked from everywhere, finished after contact dropped the mid to long-range effortlessly with a pull-up jumper and even though I was already sold, that wasn’t enough as she gave me a JOLT by playing the passing lane

AJ McCandis (Team 10 16U) her ability to see the floor and make the right passes were among the best not only in her division but at the event and that, along with her not only handling the ball but also creating her shot under pressure was really good, so was her jumper, yeah she has pull-up too that she can knock down from mid to long-range

Taneya Howard-5’10 F (Swift 2023) let me start with she is “long and athletic” and remember “that’s the base” and watching her not only defend on the inside but she can do it baseline to baseline is a huge plus, so is her rebounding, on both ends and her timing to block, alter or deflect shots. Her first step is nice, it allows her to attack and finish after contact

BRILEY BURNS

Jennifer Hartman-5’11 G (Arkansas Select 2024) I often say that I love big guards that can shoot yet I also add an amendment which is “so do college coaches and they offer scholarships” so watching her drain the long ball with ease numerous times, including several back to back, hey I turned my head and may have missed a triple, she definitely understands how to get it off and nail it

Sophia Regaldo (Banshees 2023) defense definitely grabbed my attention from afar and as I moved in and saw her rebounding over and over on both ends, getting putbacks which she finished after contact, seeing her handle the ball on the wing and attack the basket off the dribble to also finish strongly was nice

Briley Burns-5’10 SF (Shock 2023) does a good job attacking the basket with either hand and finishing the same way but it helps because she can shoot it and I mean drop it consistently from the outside and this keeps defenders guessing but she too fits that profile college coaches love to see and when you factor in she plays within herself and can score in the flow, that’s pretty big

Morgan Borgstadt-6’0 G (Shock 2023) she does things so effortlessly that some may go unnoticed by the novice evaluator but first of all, her size is very intriguing for college coaches and what she does playing the 1 is very impressive. She controls the tempo, she’s heady, she makes crisp passes on the money with either hand, blocks shots and rebounds, what am I leaving out, oh yeah, she can drop the mid to long range and attack off the dribble and finish strongly

Carlee Casteel-5’7 SG (Shock 2023) attacks the basket and creates contact as she attacks, that’s big but so are her finishes after the lick. She’s athletic and add her to the long ball extraordinaire list as she creates her shot for that as well as the midrange but the pull-up jumper isn’t the end of it, she also plays the passing lane

Jordan Gregory-5’9 SG (Shock 2023) with a team filled with shooters and scorers, she did a little bit of both and she sets the defender up so smoothly I already see what’s coming so either she can stop on a dime, especially in transition and drain it or just attack the rim yet her doing things I love to see, yep, playing the passing lane, also led to numerous baskets
