Atascocita wins 2014 Aldine Invitational
I had a chance to watch Port Arthur Memorial on all three days and their explosiveness once the playoffs start could cause them to sneak up on some folks and even though they lost to Atascocita 56-54 in the Aldine ISD Invitational finals they showed several positive signs. The duo of Joyce Kennerson and Jakeria Ford , scoring 12 and 15 respectively, is definitely their one-two punch and with Ford sitting most of the first half, they fell behind double digits however I said they would make a run and run they did as they closed the gap to two after three but Atascocita was simply too strong. Hannah Hopkins was virtually unstoppable on the inside scoring 16 points while Darby Pugh came off the bench to provide 12 points which definitely came in handy. Big plays, no huge plays from Anacia Wilkinson in the fourth quarter helped seal the victory but there were players that had their moments throughout the game
Shae Moore played big on both ends for Atascocita finishing with 10 points while Erica Stewart brought plenty of heat on defense; Stewart was named MVP of the tournament. Multiple three point shooters on Port Arthur Memorial were impressive, Autumn Jones and Channel Babineaux got hot in that second half run, Babineaux finished with 11 while the improvement of 6’2 Kennedy Lofton continues to show. This was a very good game between a couple of teams with plenty of talent and the All-Tournament team pictured above has Stewart, Moore, Wilkinson and Hopkins for Atascocita and Ford and Kennerson for Port Arthur Memorial. Atascocita hosts Texas Invitational winner North Shore tomorrow which is Monday the 24th at 1pm so I think I might make that ride
