All Eyes On She-Varsity Division Tip Sheet

TATYANNA BAILEY & AALIYAH COBB

Saw plenty of new faces, that’s always a plus and it helps when I have non-erroneous rosters because it saves me time, I emphasize that over and over yet like many other things I’ve repeated with, I keep forgetting I’m living in a #PostLiterateSociety so I go with what’s in front of me and these are some of the other standouts to go with Ainsley Velasquez-6’0 (Hoop 10) 2022, Taylor Ross-6’0 PF (San Antonio Lady Hoops Silver/Black) 2023 and Nmesoma Okola-6’1 PF (Phoenix) 2025 who will be added to PGH Texas Top 100 and Watch List respectively as well as current Top 100 players Madison Hurta-5’8 PG (Austin Elite Ice) 2024 and Brianna Wilson-6’0 (Austin Elite Ice) 2022, read more

MAKAYLA WILFORD

Makayla Wilford (Austin Elite Ice) 2022 sometimes it’s just the little things that make a difference and she does so many things, plays passing lane, defends, rebounds, attacks off the dribble and knocks down shots that her “never takes a play off” mindset just tops it off, no wait, her UPS tops it off as she elevated over taller players

Jayla McCarver (Austin Elite Ice) 2022 she’s long and athletic is the base that starts it off and she’s going to be an even better next-level player because of a couple of things to go with “the base”. She finishes strongly after contact, she understands positioning to rebound and she’s around “the magic number” of 6’0

Marissa Brewer (Austin Elite Ice) 2023 has the right last name because the “percolator” was definitely brewing because of her SWB, speed with the ball as well as being under control, especially going coast to coast but that, tagged with court vision gave teammates good looks or she kept it and scored by attacking or the pull-up jumper

Mikalah Buckley (Austin Elite Ice 2023) does a good job seeing the floor and her court vision was one of the highlights because I love players that can thread the needle, throw pinpoint passes between defenders yet she also uses her athleticism nicely either to take defenders off the dribble and score or flip it and use it defensively

Tatyanna Bailey (Austin Elite Ice) 2024 so happy to see her turning corners, upwards because she has a lot of time and a lot of untapped potential and to be honest, that’s pretty impressive because she sold me at last seasons #AllEyezOnMe Individual Showcase heading into HS, yes I’m that good but she’s better because once she gets going, outside or off the dribble, she’s hard to handle and with her frame, she’s an and one waiting to happen

JOLIE AGUIRRE

Jolie Aguirre (CTX Lady Knights) did a good job of setting the defender up to attack off the dribble and she did it with a deceptive first step yet she also showed she could create her shot as well. Played solid defense, rebounded, and handled the ball in traffic plus she’s under control, she doesn’t get rattled and plays within herself

Sophia Edwin (KC Lady Ballers) #sizedontmatter when you can play and the game starts “at the 1” are two things you should remember yet most want but I remember this, she controlled the tempo, she saw the floor, she sets teammates up for easy baskets, was vocal and to add one more thing, she makes those around her better yet let me sum it up with she’s “ice under pressure” and seeing her down the stretch take control was nice

Alexis Pitucci (CenTex Ballerz) does a good job at creating her shot and getting to her spot and knocking the outside shot down from various angles, with a hand in her face as well as taking defenders off the dribble were both pluses yet her defense and rebounding let me add a few more to her overall game

Mercedes Perez (San Antonio Lady Hoops Silver/Black) what can I say other than she’s one of the state’s most improved players. She sees the floor, her no looks and backhand passes are among the best in the state and her poise has shot up because she understands she can score from mid to long or off the dribble yet she forces nothing and she defends and plays the passing lane

Sarah Morales (San Antonio Lady Hoops Silver/Black) creates her shot so smoothly that it can sometimes hypnotize you yet she doesn’t get fancy, just comes right at you, and watching her elevate on the mid to long-range in the half-court is as much fun as seeing her use the stop and pop in transition yet she also defends and rebounds

Aaliyah Cobb (San Antonio Lady Hoops Silver/Black) I love saying “corn on the” yet don’t leave off the butter because she’s slippery attacking the rim with a very nice first step while finishing with a lot of power after contact. Yeah, she’s one of the best defensive guards in her class, diving on the floor, in the stands, she even knocked the cameraman down, ME, yet her sheer desire is something you can’t teach

Analisa Alicea (San Antonio Lady Hoops Silver/Black) breakout event is putting it mildly as she put it in the hoop rapidly. The organization has shooters galore, add her to the mix as she showed me a whole lot in a short amount of time as I was covering multiple courts yet she was dropping multiple shots from multiple spots and I’ll catch her multiple more times this season
