Alix will be sealing deal very soon
Girls’ basketball continues to strive in the Houston area along with the state of Texas and it seems like every time you witness great players graduate, there are always others to take their places. I have a knack for spotting these types of players at a young age, sort of like guys who find priceless works of art at garage sales but many don’t know masterpieces until the painting has been finished. AJ Alix caught my eye while she was in the seventh grade, playing on the eighth grade team, at Pershing and the young lady was not only smooth but very poised at that stage of her career. I don’t remember who she played with or who the team was playing against but they weren’t bad and 40 points later, I tagged AJ as “The Real Deal”
Speaking of the 40 points, AJ is one of only a handful of kids I’ve witnessed score 40 or more points in middle school, high school and club ball and the most impressive of those games was in her freshman year at Bellaire when she put the Cardinals on her back against Hightower in the area regional championship scoring 40 in a five point loss. That performance, along with Eboni Mangum’s 28 fourth quarter points for Dulles when she was either a freshman or sophomore, also in the area regional championship, have been the two biggest feats by young players I’ve seen in those types situations, Mangum is also on the list of best players I’ve seen come through the area.
Alix will be sealing the deal soon as she chooses where she attends college and from what I’m hearing, Bellaire may have a chance to make a run which would truly be a deal sealer. I’ll catch the Cardinals at the Texas Invitational as they are pooled up with Cinco Ranch, Mansfield Summit and Pearland
