Alamo City Hoops I-35 HS Showdown 2022 Top Performers
I’ve been celebrating the whole month of September for my birthday since the turn of the century and the presents galore I have received, witnessed, or been a part of has been amazing and one of those that I witnessed as well as being a part of was last weekends Alamo City Hoops event which had over 40 HS teams, I caught close to 90%, give me an idea on how this season will shape up, especially since I’m about to do the seedings for Texas Invitational as a couple of teams solidified not only #1 seeds yet they just might win it all but hold on, I’m going to touch on every squad I saw, let me start with the Top Performers from the 2022 class I personally saw
Kayla Herrera-5’5 G (Laredo Alexander) stop and pop jumper, as well as body control, was on full display until she turned her ankle yet still managed to put up numbers multiple ways
Deja Hinson-5’5 SG (Clemens) explosive first step, explosive jumper as well as explosive with the ball after playing the passing lane yet she made everything go as she set the tone on her team
Carleigh Wenzel-5’11 G (Antonian) the picture-perfect jumper I have grown accustomed to gave me a solid going away view as I probably won’t catch the Virginia Tech commit again yet off the dribble wasn’t bad, nor was rebounding
Zeta Jenkins-6’0 PF (Austin Bowie) powerful in the pain, as well as off the dribble, and watching her score multiple ways in the paint with players literally hanging on her was nice, so was her jumper
Samaria Bostick-5’9 G (Copperas Cove) solid defender that was “on the ball” baseline to baseline yet her rebounding was solid as well yet her athleticism and ability to create her shot, the pull-up jumper was, well solid too
Shelby Hayes-6’0 C/PF (Cedar Park) showed she could control a game from either end as she is one of the top rebounders in the state and with her countless moves in the paint as well as her soft touch facing the basket, she was hard to contain
Kiersten Johnson-6’3 C/PF (Duncanville) long and athletic, that’s the base yet she added some trouble with that pull-up jumper for THREEEEEEEE numerous times but off the dribble, forget about it, she elevates over defenders with ease and watching her block shots, grab it and go coast to coast for baskets was very nice
Erica Suarez-5’7 SG (Hendrickson) one of the best shooters in the state, she creates her shot under pressure, she comes around screens, she can drop the stop and pop in transition, and her “catch and shoot” was on full display
Tse Nizhoni Morgan-6’0 C (Somerset) is one of the most underrated players in her class, she toned up last year and has been a menace to the basketball society trying to defend her as she scored facing as well as with her back to the basket
Sidney Love-5’7 SG (Steele) her ability to score off the jumper is one of the best in Texas, any class, and that pull-up could not be stopped. Her release is quick, she has an explosive first step to score off the dribble as well yet that midrange was ON
Jamesha Reece (Shoemaker) just goes hard, on both ends, and watching her overpower defenders in the paint, as well as rebound over taller players, was nice, so was her smothering defense which included playing the passing lane
