Cy Woods takes FBISD Tournament

There is nothing like covering some good basketball and throughout last season, Cy Woods proved to a very exciting and entertaining team, especially during the second half of district and throughout  the playoffs. The team lost to Seven Lakes in the Region 3 quarterfinals and with one lone senior, they were simply my hands down choice as the team to beat in R-3 this season. In order to compete and make a run to get of your region, several things need to happen, one you need stay healthy and two, you have to always be ready, because in a one game playoff, you only have to be the best team in that game which is why sometimes the best team doesn’t represent the area.  Cy Woods started the FBISD Tournament undefeated and after the first quarter of their semifinal game against district rival Langham Creek, they led 5-2 which told me whoever advanced and lost had no chance of beating Dekaney, who won, or Cy Ranch, who lost, and I was incorrect on both parts. Tyler Davis took a nasty spill and hurt her neck in that game and I didn’t foresee her playing in the championship which would be a problem, especially since All American sophomore Nancy Mulkey has been out all year but she’ll be back when it counts

Davis did play and the young ladies came together and pulled off a dramatic win against Dekaney 52-35, Erica Ogwumike was named MVP for her outstanding performance which included 22 points in the championship. Erica and her sister Olivia, simply lay the foundation for the Wildcats along with Davis and Gbermi Orundami while Ashley Foster’s continued improvement was key to them making that E-8 run last season. I’m truly liking this move-in Tayana Perez, she brings a lot of energy along with heat on both ends of the floor and this is a very solid team, each player knows and understands their roles and once everything comes together, they just may get out of here.
