GPR Out Of State 40/40 Tip Sheet

2013 4040 Kayla JonesKayla Jones was simply everywhere

It’s always great to see talent from other states, not only for me but more importantly for parents and players to truly understand how competitive this stuff is. The John Lucas 40/40 Camp was simply one of those camps that sort of left you speechless at times, well not me because I can go on and on and when the level of talent is as good as it was, it just flows. Here are some out of state kids that caught my eye and as far as the three Tip Sheets, I’ve given you over 30 players not to mention the countless stories.

2014

Roichelle Marble-5-8 guard-East HS-Des Moines IA

Marble proved #13 was a lucky number as she did just about anything she wanted to do on the floor. She’s fast and athletic, knows how to recover on defense and can handle the ball with ease which enabled her to blow by several defenders, plus she finished strong with contact

Dominique Broadus-6-1-Parkway HS-Ballwin MO

Good size and body and battles on both ends constantly is how I described her a year ago, well nothing has changed. She appears stronger, has very good footwork and her drop-step was one of the best I’ve seen all year, plus she can finish and with her strength……….

2015

Dejanee Boykin-6-2 wing-CH Flowers HS-Springdale MD

Didn’t take a lot of notes on this kid; I’m still seeing some amazing things float through my head. She’s a super athlete that can play basketball and her athleticism is simply off the chain. She showed the ability to dominate on both ends throughout the event against anyone and when you add her strength, oh my!!!

Rydeiah Rogers-6-1 wing-Myers Park HS-Charlotte NC

This camp had no shortage of super athletes that could attack the basket and Rogers was among the best at doing that. When you can put the ball in the basket, I’m thinking that’s good to put on your resume when you want to play at the next level but she did it against just about anyone

Alyssa Jones-5-8 guard-Southmore KS-Oklahoma City OK

Jones can handle the ball, she can attack the basket from anywhere and she can hit the midrange but the most important thing is she did those things over and over against different players, some highly regarded

2016

Sydnei Archie-5-11 guard-Monacan HS-North Chesterfield VA

Archie is one of those players that you just can’t take your eyes off of because she’s relentless on both ends. Even if she isn’t scoring, she’s defending or battling in the paint for rebounds. She’s a big guard that can attack the basket well and she showed she could hit the jumper. I’m still playing one particular play in my head when she exploded for a rebound, huge ups and upside

Brogan Jones-6-3 post-North Little Rock HS-Little Rock AR

Jones size and body will land her somewhere at the next level, that’s a given and if she continues to show the work ethic I saw, she’ll have an abundance of options. She’s strong, has a very good body and even more importantly, she doesn’t quit

Maya Dennis-5-4 guard-Plainfield North HS-Plainfield IL

Dennis is active on both ends of the floor, she moves well without the ball, she showed she could run a team when needed and also hit the midrange. Her shot is fluid and her effort is endless

2017

Taya Robinson-5-9 guard-Huguenot HS-Richmond VA

Athletic and smooth on the floor, she plays older than she is laymen’s terms means she understands certain things early in her career. She has a lot of upside and knows how to score which is nice to have, especially when she probably hasn’t finished growing

Mary Beth Ratchford-5-7 guard-Hanover HS-Mechanicsville VA

Ratchford has nice form on her jumper and was able to knock the long one down consistently however I found she was more than just a spot up shooter. She took defenders off the dribble, handled the ball nicely, under pressure, and showed she could pass as well

Kayla Jones-6-0 forward-Riverside HS-Jamesville NC

Size and effort alone will get her D1 offers however when you’re this young and possess the tools this young lady has, keep your eye on her for sure. She has a college ready body now, she runs the floor well, in fact she doesn’t take plays off and she can handle the ball full court, under pressure

Kayla Conner-6-2 post/forward-Heritage HS-Richmond VA

Young and athletic, runs the floor and has huge upside are what I remember about Conner on day one of the camp however day it was a different story as she controlled the paint and finished strong. As an added bonus, well for me, she faced the basked and hit the 12 footer a few times, did I mention HUGE upside
