2013 GPR 40/40 Tip Sheet
Based on what I was told, the John Lucas 40/40 Camp was even more impressive this season and after observing the talent, all I know is that I left impressed period. With close to 70 girls’ basketball players capable of playing at a variety of levels in college, it was great for me to assess this type of talent but also it gave our area players something to look at and gauge where they are and hopefully they use this as a motivational tool to get better because the ladies from the east coast definitely made their presence felt. Coach Lucas stressed the importance of shooting which sometimes can appear to be a lost art however I would have to say that from the start of the camp until the final basket was scored, I saw players working and absorb what was being taught. I’ve dropped 11 on you already on my Full Court Tip Sheet, here are eight for the GPR Tip Sheet
2014
Sasha Cedeno-6’0 whatever-Klein Oak HS-Houston TX
I list her as whatever because I’ve seen her play every position on the court. She’s good enough to run the point effective but her biggest asset is scoring from all over the court and when she’s on, she’s more than a handful
Brittany Thomas-5-7 guard-Parkway South HS-Chesterfield MO
Athletic and shifty with the ball, Thomas maneuvered out of tight spots against some of the top guards in the country. She’s quick and also explosive off the dribble, sort of like a turbo charger performs. Solid defense and scoring came easily
SASHA CEDENO
2015
Tana Driver-5-2 guard-Irving MacArthur HS-Irving TX
I don’t watch football but this TD is one of those players I can’t my eyes off of. She’s smooth as silk and deceptive. One of the true point guards in the state that simply knows the game and how to get her teammates involved, yet she can score almost whenever she pleases
Jasmine Butler-6-0 forward-Pearland HS-Pearland TX
Two years ago I knew she was going to play at the next level just based on size and athleticism however she turned a corner prior to club season and another afterwards as she is officially BCS capable. She’s a nightmare waiting to happen for defenders yet she hasn’t peaked
Chanette Hicks-5-6 guard-Maury HS-Norfolk VA
I watched her crossover early in the camp until I started feeling dizzy but the Virginia Tech commit showed she could do quite a number of things. She’s so quick that if you play her too close, bye bye, and even if that’s not there, she jumps well for her size and can get her shot off against bigger guards with ease and it’s consistent
2016
Jocelyn Jones-5-11 guard-Cosby HS-Chesterfield VA
She’s almost at the magic number of six feet college coaches love but even if she doesn’t make it, she plays above it. Super athleticism is always a good thing to have, when you the ability to play and understand the game, that’s huge. Her shooting was also huge, be it midtown, uptown or a couple from what seemed like out of town
2017
Makayla Stanley-6-2 post-Glen Allen HS-Glen Allen VA
She’s a post now but I saw her do some things that showed me she can play a BCS four and maybe a three. She runs the floor extremely well and actually out ran some of the guards on the break. She has a soft touch facing the basket and with nice hands and footwork plus a college ready body, sky is definitely the limit
2018
Charli Collier-6-2 post-Crosby MS-Crosby TX
Talk about being able to play multiple positions, Collier is becoming more fluid with her ball handling and outside shooting which is all fine and dandy but right now, she went against some of the top players in the country her size and better and held her own many times. When you’re young and already one of the premier players in your class and continue with the work ethic she has, MDAA is definitely on the list, maybe the #1 spot period
