Rebels-Poth and Houston Premier brighten 2017 even more
It played the way I thought it would as Katy Rebels-Poth and Houston Premier 14U made it to the finals of Prime Time’s Houston Summer Hoops Tour part 2. Both squads are loaded with young talented players from the 2017 class which places even more fuel fire for next level talent not just in the state of Texas but for the Houston area as well. Laura Rowe (Rebels) and Savannah Bambridge (Premier) were two of the most outstanding players in the event and both made my tip sheet but there are others who I predict will be making several of them in the not so distant future.
On Poth’s team, McKenna Calaway and Stephanie Monted knew how to get to the rim and finish, Jacque Lozier and Abi Poth handled the paint and Samantha Saccomen was simply overpowering at times. Amanda Saldivar was under control and handled the ball well under pressure while Mariana Gonzalez not only scored outside or inside, she had no problem banging
On the Premier squad, Madison McGurrin continues to show she can hit the midrange and Brooke Atherton is a force on the inside. Emily Mills is long and is very active around the rim while Reagan Satterfield can take defenders off the dribble, more importantly with either hand. The more I watch Shelby Sanderson, the more I want to see because not only does she play a lot taller than she what she is, just watching her absorb what’s being told on the sideline has me thinking she’s going to be a very good point, not to mention she has already figured most of this out at an early age, she’s a 2018 by the way.
Both teams like I said have players who are going to be mentioned among “the girls” on their respective high school squads and many have more than a very good chance of playing beyond college. I’ll close with this, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish and these young ladies are off to a very good start, and the “ain’t” finished
