Reasons why Duncanville
Let me sum everything up like this as far as the best team in the state. It’s Duncanville and everyone else, I said that before I saw everyone after watching the Pantherettes play during the Texas Invitational and after observing how easily they went through the Sandra Meadows Classic, I believe it even more, they are simply the second best team I’ve seen from Texas.
Well that may be incorrect because the best team I saw was last season’s Duncanville squad and this one could be even better even though they lost Empress Davenport (Texas) and Morgan Bolton (UALR)
How do you lose two D1 players and get better? I don’t know but let me break it down as simple as possible
One reason could be Ariel Atkins and I tweeted Atkins is one of the best players I’ve ever seen because of not only what she brings to the table with her ability but also the intangibles she adds to this very unselfish group of young ladies. She opened the game up with 8 of her 12 points to get the ball rolling
Kiara Perry was an undersized post last season and I knew she was good however over the summer, she showed me she was even better than even I believed as I watched her play all five positions and play them quite well. She was the leading scorer in the championship game with 18 points so that’s another reason
Tasia Foman was the star off last season’s state tournament championship game but what has impressed me even more is the fact that the lightning quick guard’s defense has gone to another level. She’s doing an abundance of things for this team and she spread her 13 points evenly in the title game so maybe that’s the reason
Destinty Means is another player who has picked her game up to fit her 6’2 body as she was a force to be reckoned with during the tournament however the primary reason this team could be better than last season is the dramatic improvement made my Means and Antonia Robinson, another 6’2 player who scored 14 points in the championship game against Plano West
