Area upsets show R-3 is up for grabs

In staying with the trend, why would this season’s girls’ basketball provide anything but excitement and entertainment that like a good mystery, this season will keep you guessing until the end ? Year after year, strange things have happened during the course of each season and sometimes those teams you expect to win come up short, a prime example would be Beaumont Ozen’s 66-39 loss to Barbers Hill in the 4A-Region 3 area finals back in February.
I picked Manvel, Clear Springs and Dekaney as the top three teams and when it’s all said and done, I expect them to be among the teams with the best chance to get out of their respective regions. With that being said, I also picked North Shore and Pearland to be in the Top 5 however they haven’t done as well as I expected.
Cy Ranch and Bellaire have stepped up and pulled off big upsets against two of those teams that I listed as the top three which earns them the right to be among the five best in the area in the early going, at least in my eyes however this is only my opinion based on what I’ve seen in the first month of play however there have been a few circumstances that could have major impacts down the road.
The Woodlands played in the Texas Invitational without three starters and over at the FBISD Tournament, Cy Woods had key players stepping on the court directly from volleyball while Dekaney was missing a valuable piece of their puzzle who is nursing a minor ankle injury so pulling a line from a Fringe episode, “nothing is as it seems”.
It’s all about runs, getting hot at the right time and positioning in the playoffs. Manvel and Clear Springs, providing both win their district, will play each other to see who makes it to the Area Final 4 which is somewhat of an injustice but that’s the way the ball bounces sometimes
