Clear Springs at Dekaney opens up wide open season
BROOKE MCCARTY
Many area teams took big hits after the 2012 class graduated which will open the doors for new stars to emerge on the scene and make names for themselves. Several underclassmen will do just that while on the other hand players who may have been only role players will get their day under the bright lights of varsity girls’ basketball. One thing is for certain, two of last season’s top teams will again be contenders in their various regions, Clear Springs in R3 and Dekaney in R2. Both lost D1 players, the Cougars Aliyah Brown to Georgetown and the Wildcats Shante Nevitt (Texas Tech) and Alexis Durley (Cincinatti) but those spaces will be filled.
Brooke McCarty (2014) is one of the top players in her class and is a shoe-in for MDAA honors and since the game starts at the one, Clear Springs will definitely be one you won’t want to turn your back on as far as getting out of here, especially after losing to Elsik back to back seasons in the semifinals. Joining her is Courtney Latham (Tulane), Joann Lira and Kaylen Roher, no official word on where they will be attending but signing date is closing in.
Dekaney also has one of the top 2014 players in Kayla Nevitt, along with a couple of other D1 commits, Brianna Taylor (Texas) and Jaleesa Chappel (Wichita State) along with Amber Driver who has next level written all over her. Suffice to say that with these teams opening up against each other, this could conceivably be a state final match-up, something Dekaney did last season however I am sure Manvel and The Woodlands among others will have something to say about that
