South Texas Hoyas loaded with talent

Hoyas Valdez

MEGAN VALDEZ (2017)

The BigTyme Fall Finish did exactly what it was supposed to do and that’s give players an opportunity to showcase their skills against tough competition in front of college coaches and I’ve probably mentioned that a couple of times. What it also did was once again solidify the talent coming from San Antonio which has become a major player in the state giving all four regions top tier players that are next level bound. The temperature has been hot throughout Texas and after the Fall Finish ended, combined with what I witnessed over the past season, the youth coming up have no intention of letting things cool off.

The South Texas Hoyas brought a couple of teams, Blue and Gray, to the event with several talented players. When I say talented, I mean talented young ladies that have the potential to play at the next level, joining San Antonio’s Finest, Sophia Young Elite and the Rohawks as some of the clubs with players that are separating themselves from the rest while showing they can play college ball. One of the most impressive players at the BigTyme Fall Finish was the Hoyas-Gray’s own Megan Valdez(2017), a feisty point guard that’s ahead of the curve.

Valdez helped lead her team to a 3-1 record for the tournament and she capped the weekend scoring 21 points, which included 4 three pointers in their final game. The thing that probably impressed me most about Valdez was her knowledge of the game as she showed a tremendous amount of poise. She and another 2017 player, Brittany Rodgers, were playing up on a team comprised of 2015 and 2016 players and both showed they could handle the pressure against other top players
