Texas 2014 Monster Class

DFW Turner and Calvert

BRIANNA TUENER & MACKENZIE CALVERT

There isn’t anything like being right however when I pegged the 2014 class from Texas to be a monster, it was easy. First of all I knew Brianna Turner would make a run at the number one player in the nation. Her size, work ethic, comprehension was ahead of her skill level when I saw her for the first time as a sixth grader and when you see a player make jumps like she did every time I saw her, well again it was easy.  Recee Caldwell and Brooke McCarty made it easy for me as well, simply due to the fact that at very young ages they both had two very important things going for them. One, they understood the game and they could also take it over anytime they wanted to and I’m talking in their age group or higher, what do I always say, it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against.

Mackenzie Calvert wasn’t as easy as the others the first time I saw her but her desire sold me the second time as she showed she could play the game like the throwback players and I mean all over the floor, in your face defense and going after every loose ball in her area. That alone showed me something and whatever she was lacking, gym time would take care of. It has, she has and with that being said, these four have laid the foundation for what’s going to be one of the gems from the gym as far as classes since the turn of the century in Texas. Throw in the Duncanville duo of Ariel Atkins and Tasia Foman, the Mansfield Timberview duo of Terriel Bradley and JaLea Bennett and you have major possibilities galore but remember sometimes things don’t work out like they should; nevertheless these young ladies are among the top players in the country but wait, there are several others who are deserving that you might not know about, more to come, especially if you subscribe!
