Region 1 Sleepers
TORI JACOBS
I already mentioned that Region 1 was the strongest region in the state, no argument will even be considered and although I believe the front runners for a trip to Austin are Cedar Hill and Duncanville, one thing I’ve found out through the years is that anything is possible. Cedar Hill is senior heavy, well so is Duncanville but 2014 stars Ariel Atkins and Tasia Foman will be back for one more season which will make this even more interesting next season. Why, because Irving MacArthur, will be pretty darn good with Tori Jacobs and Charna DeJean, also from the 2014 class, not only this year but next but to be honest with you, there might be a sleeper this season who could create some problems and you guessed it, a couple of their bright young stars happen to be from the 2014 class as well
JALEA BENNETT
Mansfield Timberview opens up the season with a new coach and a player, Lili Thompson, who will be signing with Stanford in a couple of months. They also have a couple of young ladies, Terriel Bradley and JaLea Bennett, who are also among the top 2014 players in the state but a case could be made for each on a national level as well, just like the other juniors I mentioned in the opening paragraph. Timberview has the tools to get hot at the right time and pull off some surprises, after all Thompson is an effective scorer while the 2014 duo simply click together, not only in school but on the club scene as well as I saw them play in the Big State Flava, the Adidas National Championships and Basketball on the Bayou but the first time I saw them was last season in Houston during the Cy Fair Texans event. One look and I was sold, no need to spend all of this summer evaluating, they were ready back then.
The question is will the team be ready, again they will have to adjust to a new system along with some new faces but when you have three like this, anything is possible
