PTNC Tip Sheet
NATALIE CHOW
I’ve always told people there is talent everywhere and after covering the Prime Time National Championship for four days, I had a chance to see a lot of talented players that will go on to make it to the next level at one level or another. These young ladies are some of the ones I had a chance to watch simply take control of games on more than one occasion and I’m not saying these were necessarily the very best only some of the best I saw
2013
Chandler Smith-6-0-guard-Way to Win Gold
Chandler Smith has one of the smoothest jumpers I’ve seen this summer and not only is it pretty, it’s accurate which is probably a little more important. Even more important than the fact that she could score in bunches is when those bunches had been plucked or picked away, she showed she could contribute in other areas such as setting her teammates up for easy baskets
Kevionne Moten-6-4-post-The Monroe Lady Tarheels
I’m sure you have heard this old saying by now and if you are new to the game and haven’t, you certainly will but the simple fact of the matter is posts are premiums. Kevionne Moten falls into that category and although she wasn’t really what I’d call dominate, she showed she has the potential to be dominate. Whenever the Lady Tarheels needed a big basket, she gave it to them and the same could be said about a rebound or blocked shot
2014
Sueterrica Key-5-9-guard-Lady Renegades
It’s always a thrill for me to watch point guards that have the ability to not only set their teammates up for easy baskets but to also see plays de3velop ahead of time. Key showed she was one of those types of players and every time she stepped on the court she was a triple double waiting to happen. Ball handling, court vision and the ability to get to the basket is enough to get her a scholarship but she has a lot more which will take her far
Janae Arnold-5-8 guard-Team Spirit
When you talk about taking over a game from the point, you’ve already described Janae Arnold. She can score from anywhere on the court, she can get to the basket anytime she wants which enables her to get to the free throw line quite a bit. She is a very unselfish ball player who loves to play to defense and watching her dribble the clock down in several games was a work of art
2015
A’lachannon King-5-8-guard-Houston Lady Ballers
She’s not own here because I wanted to show a hometown kid some love, she’s on here because she was simply amazing. A’lachannon King put the Lady Ballers on her back and helped lead them to the finals of the Challenger Bracket but her ability to score after taking lick after lick reminded me of the energizer bunny. This young lady has scary upside and is one of the best players in Houston
2016
Lauren Cox-6-4-post-NT United
I know I’ve listed Lauren Cox at different heights but it’s hard to get it right when you’re looking down. On second thought, maybe I changed her height because I got caught up at what she did at various parts of different games. She can handle the ball like a guard, she showed she could hit the mid-range jumper and ran the floor like a wing, a very athletic wing. She also dominated on the inside like a post and on the last day she showed me she could knock down the three and the killing part about it is she was playing against players as much as two to three years older. Add it all up, she is a PLAYER!
Natalie Chow-5-10-Lady Jets
When you play on the team of a star NBA player, everyone is going to be looking at you at least once. When you can play, they will stay and I saw Natalie Chow simply give me a glimpse of how strong 2016 is in Texas. I expect her to turn into a major prospect, not only because she can score but for the simple fact is she knows how to score and when you understand certain things at a certain age, you’re ahead of the game
