Top Performers-Jene Carter Division #TJShowcase

OLIVIA BROOKS

Plenty of heat coming at ya from this division and, well let’s jump right into it. I already dropped 6 TAKEOVER GUARDS on Prep Girls Hoops, Abby Seitz (Phoenix) Mariah Houston (Rock Nation) Shaniya Fox (SA Lady Hoops Navy) Mahalia Twine (Lonestar 17U), and Raniyah Lewis (Team Texas 17US40) so one more time, that’s FIVE from this DIVISION so here’s a bundle for you, note, teams in the FINALS have 2 selectees

Kemyreul Wheaton (Lonestar 17U) 2024 has elevated her game every season since I caught her in middle school and her ability to take over a game, on both ends, has gotten even better. She can play all 5 positions if needed yet her unselfishness has always stood out, and so has her rebounding and defense. She’s strong and finishes powerfully yet her jumper is nice

Olivia Brooks (Lonestar 17U) 2024 is back and 100% and watching her DESIRE at an early age gave me an idea of what she was going to become and that’s a menace in the paint. She falls into that “you won’t outwork me” group I talk about that reminds me of yesteryear and seeing her battle, not only for rebounds but also for loose balls on the floor keeps me smiling

Kianana Wormly-5’11 G (Phoenix 2025) was just elevated to the Top 10 on PGH Texas Top 100 and I have her maturity on the court since before her freshman season take completely off yet so has her game. She snags rebounds and goes coast to coast while being defended to score and her body control as well as taking the lick. Her mid to long-range was clicking as well

Katie Peiffer-5’11 G (Phoenix 2025) has been shooting the long ball well all club season yet her versatility continues to stand out as she is showing she can do more than drop the 3. I enjoy her getting positioning to outrebound as well as score over taller players yet she’s mixing it up offensively to attack and finish or drop the midrange. Court vision and defense also stood out

Kyzarriah Fox (SA Lady Hoops Navy) 2027 was good when I caught her last season yet she’s showing “good ain’t enough” and she’ll be in that 2027 conversation pretty soon as she’s definitely one of the top incoming freshmen in Texas, her being long and athletic helps because her timing t block shots is ahead of her years, she defends and plays the passing lane yet watching her slice down the lane to score after contact is special

Aurayona Seals (Houston Lady Wildcats 17U) 2025 uses her athleticism on both ends and her smothering defense baseline to baseline, helped create turnovers but her ball handling and court vision need to be mentioned because she made good decisions and distributed to the right teammate. She also scored off the dribble and finished strongly

Nike Essig (Rock Nation 17U) was a pleasant surprise because of her shooting the ball with confidence. She created her shot under pressure and knocked it down with a hand in her face. She mixed it up to score off the dribble but the pull-up jumper in transition was nice, mid to long-range and she also did a good job of showing she could “catch and shoot” it

Pearson McVay-6’2 PF (Team Texas 17U) 2024 was also a huge surprise because I hadn’t seen her in a very long time. She stands over the magic number, yet her magic around the basket stood out as the “hands and footwork:” got her easy looks, she finished after contact and even dropped it in front of the basket. Her rebounding, timing, and defense were also solid

MATTIE HOLMES

Christen Callens (Team Texas 17U S40 CAP) 2024 overpowers defenders, in fact, she can punish them because of her athleticism and strength. Contact is irrelevant as she can attack as well as score with either hand but watching her set the defender up and drop the jumper, mid to long-range, and in the clutch is always a plus

Whitney Hart 6’2 C (Louisiana United OJ) 2024 also showed the “hands and footwork” and I didn’t say this earlier but that is a #THROWBACK from when I became interested in this. She has a nice drop step and her power had players literally hanging on her when she scored, she rebounded, on both ends, ran the floor, and played tough interior defense

Jazmin Hansley-5’5 G (Houston Queens Elite 17U) is one of the smoothest and most explosive guards you probably haven’t heard of yet I caught her multiple times and since I’m a REAL EVALUATOR, expect her to blow up. Well also expect her to blow by defenders and stay under control and her effortlessly handling the ball under pressure to score or dish is a big yes. She also drops it from mid to long-range and defends strongly

Kendall Hitchens (Principles First 17U) 2025 is another player I hadn’t seen in a while and let me say this, if I had an ALL-TOUGHEST team, she would be on it because she is going to give all on both ends every time she steps on the court. Her defense, on the ball, Is smothering yet her deceptive first step enabled her to attack off the dribble and finish, which she does after contact

Taylor Montgomery (D5 Solid) was another athletic guard that brought IT on both ends. Yes, she scored off the dribble with ease and yes, she saw the floor and threaded the needle in traffic but her mid to long-range was clicking, both in the set as well as in the open court, and her defense, baseline to baseline was solid

Joemoriah Ben-5’7 CG (Houston United Hoops 17U) 2024 falls into that “never takes a Play-Doh” group I love talking about. She’s one of the most UNDERRATED guards in Texas yet that won’t be for long because when you can do things INSTINCTIVELY as well as she does, they will notice, sometimes with an assist from a REAL EVALUATOR. Her defense is tough, she scores acrobatically off the dribble yet she also can drop the jumper. Her court vision is also nice

Mattie Holmes (SETX Elite) 2026 not being related to SHERLOCK will never get old nor me watching her drop it from another stratosphere. She doesn’t get flustered, she plays within herself and she makes good decisions on her shot selections, she drops the mid-range too. More importantly, she gets hers in the flow and has good court vision
