Cedar Hill Stars Shine At Flava
JADA TERRY
The last two teams that won a state championship in Texas came from Region 1 and after what I saw in the Big State Flava Jam, don’t be surprised if a trifecta is pulled off. Two seasons ago, the amazing Alexis Jones helped lead Irving Macarthur to a 35-2 record and a No. 3 ranking nationally. Last season Duncanville’s Empress Davenport headed an all-star cast to not only a state title but a well-deserved No. 1 ranking nationwide after finishing 40-1 and sending several messages in that state Final 4.
From what I’ve seen so far this July, Cedar Hill might be in a position to keep the state title in Region 1, the region that has proved to be the toughest over the past two seasons. Ashley Reed, Candice Adams, Kendra Howard and Labrittney Jones star for United Basketball while Jada Terry does the same with DFW T-Jack. The one thing they all have in common is that they play for Cedar Hill; well they also will be playing at the next level. The two with the most notoriety, Adams and Terry, jumped out ahead of everyone from Texas when initial watch lists came out, in fact these two young ladies committed to Texas as freshmen. Not only did both de-commit, several other things have transpired over the past two seasons which juggled their spots and this includes Adams tearing both of her ACL’s.
That was then and this is now and Terry is the top post I’ve seen in the class and after watching Adams performance at the Flava, if she isn’t the top point, she’s not very far off which means good news for Cedar Hill next season. Reed will compliment and also give relief to Adams in the backcourt next season however the surprise players were Howard and Jones. Howard can score on a variety of ways and hit several big shots during the tournament while the 6’0 Jones is long and athletic and created many problems for defenders during the Flava. Adams is everything I heard she was pre-injury, there is no question she is a Top 100 player nationally while Terry has toned up and added several new dimensions to her game, in fact check out what I said about her on the Day 1 tip sheet for Full Court.
I’m also hearing that Cedar Hill has a freshman that will be coming in and contributing off the top, in a very large way. Although I’ve also seen a number of talented teams not go on to win state, there is no question that Cedar Hill will be a major player
