Hoops Rodriguez Still Throwing TKO’s
ELISE RODRIGUEZ
Houston Hoops-Rodriguez, formerly TKO, has been around for a minute and one thing I always liked was their style of play. Up-tempo offense, in your face defense and numerous young ladies that could stretch opponents defenses out with their abundance of three point shooters, one game in particular I watched a young lady drill eight in a row, and this was before any of the players had put on a high school uniform. Now that they are in high school at La Porte, Tori Wise (2013), Jesslee Lozano (2014), and Elise Rodriguez (2014) have been mainstays in not only the starting line-up but all have become All District performers as well. Rodriguez is the gifted point guard that knows and understands the game. She can score from a variety of ways and has the luxury of having both Wise and Lozano who can score as well.
JESSLEE LOZANO
Watching these young ladies perform for Hoops Rodriguez at the Houston Insiders Basketball Classic for the second time this season was entertaining to say the least, even though Rodriguez put on one of the gutsiest performances I’ve seen as she could barely walk but led her team to many victories. With so many of the district titles being up for grabs since the graduation of that monster 2012 class, it will be interesting to see just how high La Porte can climb and if you want to use last season’s Alvin Tournament as an example, Wise and Rodriguez helped lead them to the championship game against Manvel, both were named All-Tournament for their performances, so with the core group back and the two teams in front of them in district losing so much it should be interesting to see how everything shapes up.
