Duncanvile Has Eye On The Prize
EMPRESS DAVENPORT
This is the perfect opportunity for Cy Falls to go out with a bang. They lost against Duncanville back in the Texas Invitational 58-47, one of only two losses for the team this season. In that game, they only had two players score in double digits, Shernise Robertson (18) and Loryn Goodwin (16) while Duncanville had three, Morgan Bolton and Tasia Forman (16) and Kiarra Perry (15). The Eagles other starters, Sadalia Ellis, Kit Metoyer and Carol Willie all combined for 13 points and even though Duncanville star Empress Davenport scored only 4 points in that game, her presence on the floor is worth double digits without her having to score a point.
LORYN GOODWIN
I’ve said this numerous times and I’ll say it again, for Cy Falls to win, Ellis needs to set the tone early while Willie has to play like she did against Elsik in the paint. That by far was Carol’s best offensive game I’ve witnessed and should also boost her confidence knowing that she did it against one of the best interiors in the area. Goodwin will get hers no matter what and if Robertson and Metoyer are on, this could be a ball game but it starts at the one with Ellis.
Duncanville is simply the best team I’ve seen, they come at you off the top and keep the intensity going the whole game, that’s something that’s missing from a few years ago from a lot of teams and players and it’s refreshing to see that the importance of what’s at stake is on their minds. Talent wise, these teams are close to being even but when you head up north on I-45, the mindset is a little bit different but the Eagles have done something I felt they would do last season and the 21 game winning streak they’re on is something that doesn’t have to end
