Dekaney Faces Reagan

Dekaney Big 3

Dekaney with the luck of the draw will face San Antonio Reagan in their semifinal matchup. What do I know about Reagan? Absolutely nothing however I don’t believe Region 4-5A has produced any powerhouses over the years and Dekaney is stacked with next level players. Reagan lost four games on the season and finished second in their district, in fact they are the only runner-up in the 5A Final 4. To get here, they knocked off Northside O’Connor, Cibolo Steele and Laredo Alexander, all district winners, before defeating San Antonio Wagner, last season R4 representative who was also a runner-up. I know little about any of the teams mentioned except Steele because I had the pleasure of watching them play in the Mansfield Rotary Tournament and I know they have one of the best young backcourts in the state kin Mackenzie Calvert ad Kyra Lambert.

Dekaney Chappel Driver

None of those teams, even though I haven’t seen them all, have the firepower Dekaney possesses and if Reagan pulls off an upset, I would be amazed, in fact more amazed than the upsets that have already happened this season, most notably Ozen losing to Barbers Hill. Alexis Durley (Cincinnati) and Shunta Nevitt (Texas Tech) are the seniors who have been on varsity all four years together and provide their leadership. Then you have Brianna Taylor, Amber Driver, Jaleesa Chapel and Kayla Nevitt, Taylor and Nevitt are Top 100 players whether they are listed there or not, so the arsenal is definitely loaded. None of that matters on the court as the Wildcats have escaped with victories against Desoto and Garland Sachse by four and five points respectively
