2021 EXPOSED “Get or Be”Showcase
The inaugural EXPOSED “Get or Be” Individual Showcase was a huge success, I loved the format as well as the energy from the instructors yet what do words actually mean, well let me give you my background. I started coaching my own daughters right after the turn of the century and my youngest wound up playing multiple years in the WNBA yet prior to that she helped lead her Texas A&M squad to a National Championship, she was recently inducted into their Hall Of Fame and even before all of that, she had over 100 D1 offers, something TEAMS don’t have combined, including shoe teams, so my words actually mean something because I know the politics involved in this, first hand and I know how social media has just given several people platforms to fabricate and mislead, something I don’t do so what I tell you is based on what I’ve experienced and what I see so my biggest thing is “show me on the court” I have no interest in what someone else has said and this was a very solid group so here ya go
2023
D’Anni Bradley (Legacy School of Sport Science) long and athletic is a profile I use a lot. so do college coaches and she’s that plus can handle the ball under pressure which comes In handy since she plays the passing lane but she also scores off the dribble as well as drops the jumper and with her solid defense, on the ball, as well as timing, she has some very good upside
2025
Shaylee Lane (Splendora HS) I use this hashtag #sizedontmatter when you can play, she can play, and her fearlessness of going after loose balls definitely was a big plus, so was her setting the defender up to take off the dribble yet her baseline to baseline defense was strong, so was her seeing the floor and making tough passes on the money
2026
Shelby Tortorci (Friendswood Junior High) timing was something that stood out both in the drills as well as the games and factor in she plays the passing lane well, I love that as much as her creating her shot under pressure which enabled her to score off the dribble and finish after contact as well as drop the jumper with a hand in her face
Brittney Anderson (Legacy School of Sport Science) has scary upside because of DESIRE as well as EFFORT not to level out her athleticism so watching her defy gravity and score off the dribble with body control ahead of her years is going to create some issues since she drops the mid to long-range but she also has quick hands and went coast to coast after steals for baskets
Mary Helen Turner (SBMS) I wrote “hustles after the ball in transition” and that just grabbed me because she’s a gamer and doesn’t back down, well she backs up as in drop the jumper after the step-back which made me smile yet her handling of the ball under pressure was nice, so was her setting the defender up to take off the dribble, with either hand
Lilah Yanover (EKHLA) perfect example of why I like seeing players in different settings because, in the 1 on 1 drill, she showed she could drop it from mid to deep yet in the 5 on 5, I was somewhat mesmerized by her ballhandling as she just did whatever she wanted, under control so seeing the floor or attacking off the dribble, she did it well and when she dropped the FLOATA…
Grace Wehring (Second Baptist) how can I say this, I foresee her as being a “nightmare to defend” in high school because she can shoot it, mid to long-range and she can handle the ball under pressure and understands how to set the defender up to attack the rim, usually with the HEZ, that’s hesitation which is something you don’t want to do guarding her, but her stop and pop in transition was very nice
Aniya Brannon (Victory Lakes) I smiled when I saw her follow her shot and I immediately dropped #THROWBACK because I don’t see enough of that, as well as countless other things but I do know this, she creates her shot well enough t take the defender off the dribble multiple ways or elevates for the jumper but here’s something else, good court vision
Tycee Thibeaux (Pearland Jr High South) here we go “long and athletic” and “plays the passing lane” but you need to call the law, COP because that change of pace is very nice, so is the HEZ yet her acrobatic finishes after contact tells me what’s coming as she’s explosive off the dribble yet she also has good timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots
Ehryn Latin (Pearland Jr High South) “long and athletic” and at the same school, that is worth the drive yet her driving on the court was pretty strong as she finished strongly, even showed the FLOATA but her handling the ball in the open court was nice, especially when she showed the crossover in traffic to get by multiple defenders and when you add her defense …
Madisen Moten (Dr. Ronald McNair Jr High) long and athletic and my first look in person. Yeah I saw the videos yet sometimes they can be deceiving but in this case, she’s on the verge of something special because of her ability, athleticism, and poise under pressure, that’s something you can’t teach, and watching her score off the dribble as well as the pull-up
Draden Moss (Spring Branch MS) long and athletic plus she finishes strongly going full speed, with either hand but just observing her set the defender up excites me because she will fall into a “scorers” category meaning “she finds ways to put the ball into basket” so mid to long-range, check, she rebounds on both ends so putbacks, check and she plays the passing lane which leads to layups going the other way
Jahnae Nickerson (Woodridge Forest MS) long and athletic, see the pattern, well she definitely cuts out the fabric because she has SWB, that’s “speed with the ball” and in the open court, just get back because trying to stay with her is going to beat problem but she sees the floor in transition, can score off the dribble as well as drop the jumper with a hand in her face
Mira Johnson (Hogg MS) in the 1 on 1, I loved her first step, this enabled her to get by the defender and score with ease plus it also made the defender give her room, not good because she dropped the jumper so that translated nicely to the games where she also showed some equally important things like seeing the floor and making the right passes as well as rebounding
Averi Steele (Spillane MS) not sure if she’s going to reboot Remington Steele but she’s going to be a hit for a number of reasons like her size and power and she’s a growth spurt away from “the magic number” which is 6’0 but peep this, she plays like it anyway and her solid “hands and footwork” plus an array of spins in the paint enable her to score, literally with players hanging on her, oh yeah, she rebounds on both ends
2027
Mackenzie Teuton (James Bowie MS) prototype point guard or scoring point guard, hey she can play any part you need depending on the circumstances but what I do know is that she’s heady, she plays within herself, and understands how to make those around her better but don’t get it twisted because she can take over a game offensively, even without scoring and with her upside, h you’ll see
Sydney Marshall (The Kinkaid School) let me use something the old folks use to tell me”I knew you before you were born” and watching her grow up on the court has me speechless yet even before I saw her play, I was at one of her mom’s games and she was breaking everything down for me, better than me in fact so am I surprised at what she does on the court, no because she has an extra gear and her powerful rebounds and finishes just leave me speechless at times as she will be a terror on the court
Rachel Roberts) McCullough Junior High) long and athletic, yeah it was a lot of players that fit that mode, and watching her score off the dribble under pressure was very nice, with either hand yet so were those deep three pointers and the midrange but she understands how to get the defender off balance to do whatever she chooses and the rebounding as well as playing the passing lane was just pluses
Bailey Burns (Oak Hill Junior High) maturity on the court just grabbed me as she is beginning to understand she can score multiple ways and take advantage of her size, which is usually a mismatch. She can shoot the mid to long but watching her handle the ball under pressure to attack the rim from 20 feet is very nice, especially when she finishes after contact but her rebounding on both ends had me smiling as well
Nilah Esparza (Ray D Corbett Junior High) she handles the ball under pressure and sees the floor the same way, under pressure yet she can score off the dribble and finish after the lick but let us flip the pressure with her “on the ball defense” which was good both in the set and baseline to baseline but she also has quick hands and came up with several steals
Aliyah Woodard (Thornton MS) in the drills, off the dribble she was hard to handle yet in the games, she was hard to handle period because she can shoot it, her release is quick and she elevates on her jumper but even more impressive was her ability to “catch and shoot’ and in transition, the pull-jumper was nice as well but her court vision is ahead of her years as she made tough passes look easy
Hannah Williams (Pearland Jr High West) used her body well in the drills to finish, 5 on 5, nothing changed, well it actually did because she showed she could score outside and watching her drop the pull-up jumper numerous times, many off the glass, were very nice, so was her rebounding on both ends of the court as well as running the floor
Sophia Rousse (St. Laurence) her first step was really impressive in the drills, it got the defender off guard and she used either hand to drible as well as finish and she showed she could create her shot and het the same results in the 5 on 5 games but she also adde the jumper, she knocked it down from various spots and she did a good job seeing the floor
Kamryn Moran (Angleton Junior High) her defense stood out in both the drills and 5 on 5 ames because she studies the court and reads plays before they happen, that’ not easy but her ability to anticiapte on defense got her a lot of steals because her hands are quick and after the steal, she showed good ball-handling and made solid passes for assist opportunities
Riley O’Connor (Memorial MS) she can score off the dribble, she canalso score form outsde yet scoring on the pull-up jumper just opened the door for her yet she alread had the key because she created her shot under pressure nicely and that set the stage. Her ball-hanlding and anility to thread the needle under pressure was also nice
Kamdyn Flora (Hamilton MS) I called her a #D1Lock a long time ago, I’m ready to throw away the key yet fter seeing her and her sisters started a cotton candy company, I told her “I get it because your game is sweet” and she cracked up yet she cracks me up with some of the things she does on the court at this stage. The mid to long range, the acrobatic finshes, the poise under pressure, the on te ball defense, the rebounding as well as her unselfihness, yeah her upside is HUGE
2028
Amanda Rossini (Hogg MS) one of the youngest players at the event yet her #sizedontmatter didn’t really matter because, you guessed it, she can play and not backing down against the older kids was a sign, so was her hustling and ball-handling, not to leave out she saw the floor very well plus she scored off the dribble by setting the defender up
Kymiryn Hall (Leon Sablatura MS) another of the youngest players blended in as well with the big girls and showed she belonged as she scored off the dribble before spraining her finger and I asked her would she be able to go and she responded, “it’s only on my left hand” so right then, I knew but she showed mental toughness by playing in pain and she showed she could score, while in pain because the pull-up jumper was nice and when you factor in she’s athletic and can create her shot, that’s pretty big
