2021 Hoop 10/ Girlz Prep Report MS Tip Sheet
PLAINVIEW, Texas
I had never been to Lubbock, let alone Plainview yet I was overwhelmed while interacting with the younger players to start the event off and it took me back to why I first started doing this. I know parents and players get amped up about certain people coming to town thinking it means something yet those same people being pumped up said little or nothing about Texas players back in the day, a 2nd grader could use Google to verify what I’m saying yet no one cares because they want to believe yet I buy LOTTO tickets but sometimes I actually win and so did the players I had a chance to evaluate and I’m starting with the middle school players
2026
Emerson Plummer-5’9 F (De Zavala) long and athletic, nice footwork in the paint as well as a nice form on her shot but she also did a good job rebounding, on both ends of the court as well as defending, on both in and out of the paint, but even more impressive was the way she battled for the ball off the rim going after it wherever it came off and she has good timing to block shots but her upside is very high as she is a growth spurt away from the magic number of 6’0
Madison Chavez-5’7 G (Panhandle Jr High) Hoop 10 Hustle– attacks the basket hard, from a variety of angles, and watching her understand how to take the defender off the dribble instinctively was nice but she use her athleticism well and showed she could not only score after contact but create the jumper. She rebounded well, she handled the ball in the open court and saw the floor
Madie Francis-5’8 F (Silverton ) long and athletic, I say that a lot because its the base which means several college coaches look at that profile so what she adds to it was a deceptive first step to get to the rim along with a nice jump shot which she created under pressure yet pressure was something she did well defensively and watching her rebound strongly and score off of putbacks was nice
Carmello Guerrero -5’4 G (Bonham) brought a variety of offensive tools that just makes her a potentially hard to handle player because she understands how to set the defender up to score and she attacks the rim well but she also dropped the mid to long-range jumper and that’s because she creates her shot so well under pressure. She also handles the ball and sees the floor, as well as plays the passing lane
Lauryn Pierce-5’1 G (Estacado) Lady Heat– understands how to attack the rim from, well anywhere and she can do it with either hand, well she scored with either hand as well but she too has good timing for being around the ball and creating turnovers either from steals or just pressure defense. Her form is nice, so is her release but she understands how to create her shot which was mid to long-range
2027
Kandyce Ramirez-5’0 G (Hereford) Hoop 10 Hustle– size don’t matter when you can play, she can play and just observing her take the defender off the dribble as well as drop the jumper during the skills session had me eager for the games so observing her being “heady” and playing “within herself” told me a lot and when dropped the long ball, well that told me even more but she also did something I love to see, plays the passing lane
Gracie Grimes-5’3 G (Westover Union) created her shot very well under pressure and did it with a variety of moves but she is showing a very nice step back at an early age, which in itself will create problems, especially since she knocks the mid to long-range jumper down but she also handles the ball and sees the floor well not to leave out, drumroll please, she plays the passing lane
Gracie Williams-4’11 G (DeZavala) another “size don’t matter” guard that just brings “it” so she scores off the dribble and creates her jump shot, from mid to very long-range yet she also showed she could get hers “in the flow” but watching her handle the ball under pressure and make nice passes on the money for assists spoke volumes about her court vision as she did it consistently
Jolee Pigg-5’1 G (Nazareth) WT Breeze– she went hard in the drills, on both ends and understands the game because she set the defender up very nicely with either the HEZ, that’s hesitation, to get them off balance and allow her to attack or show the jumper, she can drop it from long-range, yet she also has a nice crossover and in the open court, that will create some problems
Angelyce Green-5’3 G (Austin ) Academy of Hoops– observing her energy while signing in got me pumped as I asked her “can you play” and she responded “you’ll see” and see I did as she attacked the rim with an explosive first step and already shows good body control to finish acrobatically yet her pull-up jumper is smooth, nice release from mid to long-range and she sees the floor and plays the passing lane
2028
Haven Pointer-5’4 G (Bushland) Hoop 10 Hustle– long and athletic is still the base yet she just goes after it, either diving on the floor or in the stands for loose balls but she “follows her shot” a lost art and showed me an array of offensive moves that are going to make her a player that can score a variety of ways. She showed the spin in traffic as well as good ball handling to split the defender and see the floor, but her attacking going baseline to score as well as that jumper had me SMH
