2021 I-35 Showcase (Dallas) 2023 Tip Sheet
This group really turned it up for me, why because I hadn’t seen most of them and this also was a group that left a lasting impression as far as next-level potential so here we go
Caitlyn Paunuco-5’8 G– watching her do some amazing things offensively in the 7th grade let me know she was one of the best players in the class you hadn’t heard about and she still is because of her ability to score, mid to long-range, as well as off the dribble is second to none, I’m keeping it real yet she managed to show me yet another side and that was get hers “in the flow” as she played both the 1 and 2, saw the floor, controlled the tempo and applied “on the ball” pressure the length of the court
Niani Lewis 5’6 G– solid pull-up jumper and understands how to use her athleticism because she attacks the basket strongly and finishes with contact but she also played good defense, saw the switch, and understood how to trap but she also rebounded against taller players, on both ends of the court and has some good upside remaining
Jillian Ortiz-6’0 PF– the often non-used drop step was on full effect or is it affect, nevertheless, it worked but so does she inside the paint and when you have the drop and understand how to use your body, good things can happen but don’t get it twisted, she also could take the defender off the dribble and finish, after contact plus she rebounded on both ends
Acadia Edmond-5’3 G– showed the pull-up early during the 1 on 1 drill so I was overly impressed at how she understood how to mix it up and attack so seeing her create her shot and drop it a few times during the games made the defense commit more and this enabled her to take them off the dribble to finish and she took the hit and completed the play several times
Jazlyn Braithwaite-5’6 G-a variety of options to get open is always nice, her deceptive first step caught the defender leaning which gave her an edge to attack the basket, from either side, with either hand and finish the same way, with either hand but she also showed she could hit the jumper with a hand in her face as well as play good defense
Tia Orr-5’6 G– created her shot very well both in the 1 on 1 as well as the games but her pull-up jumper was really nice, as well as the stop and pop in transition but she also did a good job of not only attacking the basket but attacking and finishing after contact. Throw in she applied pressure on the defensive end, the length of the court and that sums it up
Peyton Holmes– 5’5 G-athleticism stood out off the top as she was all over her man in the 1 on 1 drill so after seeing that performance, I was tinkering with my thoughts on what she would do in the games so let me say “you can’t teach desire and effort” and she was definitely one of the top defenders I saw the weekend in her class, she also scored off the dribble and saw the floor
Avery McConnell-5’8 G-her COP, change of pace, was one of the best that weekend, any class, and seeing her create her shot and drop it from deep numerous times told me a lot so when she put a spin move on the defender, that did it for me, or so I thought as she was able to also “catch and shoot” the ball with accuracy so the pull-up is definitely hard to handle
Abigail Valero-5’6 G– solid pull-up jumper after she created her shot, showed that in the 1 on 1 drill as well as during the games and her jumper is so smooth, love the release and she knocks it down with a hand in her face. She also attacks the basket strongly, did a good job of keeping the defender guessing and she finished strongly after contact
Alyssa Potter-5’5 G– I dropped the “Alyssa Potter may not be related to Harry but her shot is magical, the catch and shoot is ONNNN” on Twitter during the game and her ability to catch and shoot with accuracy is probably among the best in Texas, I don’t fabricate but she also handles the ball under pressure, sees the floor and attacks strongly, wait, she plays tough defense as well
Reagan Moilan-5’4 G-created her shot, showed the jumper, and attacked the basket strongly to finish after contact, this was all in the 1 on 1 drill so I’m thinking “show me something new” and I guess the telepathic message worked as she immediately dropped the MOD, move of the day with a EURO and if that wasn’t enough, shed also took some charges. Wait, did I mention she could drop the long ball, well she can
