2021 Battle In The Alamo Varsity Tip Sheet
I decided to break this down by divisions, too much talent to just do a Day 1 and Day 2, and based on the rosters I received, I can make this work yet I’m still excited from what I saw, it’s been over a month yet a picture is worth a thousand words and since I took over a thousand pictures, here we go. Keep in mind I’m only dropping based on rosters that I had or players I already knew
Sophie Villalobos (Blackout) poised and consistent as always, she just does things smoothly and in the flow like drop the long ball, well the midrange too but her court-vision and BB-IQ just stands out
Kayla Herrera (Blackout) her acrobatic shots were just amazing as I tweeted “highlight waiting to happen” yet she creates her shot under pressure and nailed the mid to long-range with consistency, she scored off the dribble and played the passing lane
Shayla Dede ( Nighthawks) off the dribble, forget about it because she’s so explosive, this includes the open court and she stays under control while under pressure but her pull-up is smooth and her defense is smothering
Ashley Corpus (Nighthawks) I just close my eyes and listen when she lets it go from deep because I know the sound as she’s one of the best long ball shooters in Texas, drops it under pressure, and wants it down the stretch
Macy Hein (San Antonio Lady Hoops Platinum) the pull-up jumper was in full effect as every game I caught her, the acronym PU pops up but she also did a good job attacking the rim as well as seeing the floor
Jada West (San Antonio Lady Hoops Platinum) her power on the inside just creates problems for defenders as she controlled the paint on both of the court yet her numerous and one attempts shows that she can finish after the lick yet her defense stood out as well
DavI’Yanna Jones (San Antonio Lady Hoops Platinum) MOD means “move of the day” and it also means trouble because she’s so strong and athletic, her ability to get by defenders and elevate over them for baskets was in full effect
Madison McKinnon (Fredricksburg Pride) can play both guard spots very well yet her creating her shot under pressure stood out as she set the defender up nicely for the mid to long range or attacked the rim and finished
Ella Hartman (Fredricksburg Pride) heady PG that understands how to run a team, control the tempo and take the game over when needed offensively yet her understanding how to to direct traffic perfectly has the cake iced with her being vocal
Jaida Gomez (Austin Elite RFW) every game I see her in, she shows she can knock the long ball down with a hand in her face yet her quick release and ability to create her shot , under pressure is also nothing to dismiss because she has a deceptive first step, which also enables her to get to the basket
Kaila Hamilton (Austin Elite RFW) watching her BATTLE in the paint has been a treat, she stands over the magic number, she rebounds on both ends and she defends yet her finishes with players hanging on her were nice
Avari Berry (Austin Elite RFW) one of the top PG’s in her class, she separates from the defender with her ballhandling and variety of moves yet her court vision is outstanding, she can drop the mid to long range and score after the lick off the dribble
Mercedes Perez (San Antonio Lady Hoops Black) smooth as silk is how I’d describe what she does and “don’t watch her eyes” while defending her because she can set you up so many ways, especially with her no looks yet her ability to see the floor falls in line with her mid to range jumper or acrobatic finishes, oh yeah, she plays the passing lane
Zanyra Adams (San Antonio Lady Hoops Black) one of the most athletic players in the state, that can play and her defying gravity when she goes up just takes me back to yesteryear but enough about me, she attacks with power, has a nice stop and pop jumper, rebounds and defends
Sarah Morales (San Antonio Lady Hoops Black) watching her set the defender up for the pull-up jumper isn’t fancy, she just does it and her poise on the court, especially under pressure always stands out as she drains jumper from everywhere, while being defended
Regina Hernandez (Laredo DCBA Varsity) sets the defender up with a deceptive first step and attacks strongly with either hand, finishes the same way, with either hand and can drop the jumper
Bridgette Tello (Laredo DCBA Varsity) variety of moves to get open and score, showed a nice spin move move that left the defender glued yet her touch around the rim, after contact was very god so was the midrange
(Mia Salinas (Laredo DCBA Varsity) mixes it up nicely on the offensive end to score either attacking the rim or dropping the jumper yet she also played solid defense including playing the passing lane
Aryanna Cleveland (San Antonio Lady Hoops Green) she is a Tip Sheet waiting to happen after I saw her drop a turnaround jumper in the paint yet she hasn’t let up, her desire on the court always stands out and she is scoring, under control multiple ways, rebounding on both ends and defending very well
Danielle Woods (San Antonio Lady Hoops Green) heady guard play, yet aggressive either attacking and showing the pull-up or applying heat defensively but she also sees the floor and understands how to run a team, yeah she finishes after the lick
Lei’lani Motta (San Antonio Lady Hoops Green) she’s so powerful inside the paint and it’s natural as she scores with players hanging on her but she has a nice midrange and can attack from the wing. Solid rebounder, has good timing to block shots and defends inside and outside the paint
