2021 Winter Blast Championship 6th Grade Tip Sheet

BELLA ROGERS

One thing I get a kick out of is seeing the young talent and giving them a push as well as some pub, perfect example was the brilliant assessment I gave 4 years ago on some talented 4th graders I caught up with playing in the 8th-grade division, so when I say “there is no me” no matter what you hear, the proof is in the pudding and this ain’t no jello yet here are some of the top players from the 6th-grade division

TRISTEN & JAYDEN GOLDEN

Bella Rogers (League City Sharks) long and athletic is the base I talk about a lot and she uses her length very well on both ends of the court. She attacks the rim and finishes strongly, good and hands and footwork allow her to score frequently and she can face the basket for buckets but her timing on defense to block, deflect or alter shots is also a great addition to what she brings to the table

Jayden Golden (League City Sharks) attacks the rim from everywhere and understands how to do it by creating her shot which gives her options that start with a nice mid-range jumper. She also showed she can hit the stop and pop in transition and does a good job playing the passing lane

Tristen Golden (League City Sharks) attacks the basket from multiple spots, her heady play at this stage is really something because she sets the defender up multiple ways and when you throw in she can handle the ball, under pressure and see the floor, also under pressure, that’s big

Alyssa Horns (League City sharks) understands the game, plays within herself yet showed she could score not only in the flow but also by taking defenders off the dribble, with either hand and from multiple angles

SYNIAH BOOKMAN

Syniah Bookman (Hustle & Heart) her upside jumped out at me because of her frame and strength which combined with her desire tells me a lot. She rebounds strongly, on both ends of the court and battles for loose balls outside of the paint, and when you add that she finishes with contact …

Kaylyn Blanchard (TKO) upside also is intriguing because she’s long and athletic, remember that’s the base and she attacks the basket relentlessly yet under control. Her first step is scary, it can wind up creating numerous issues, especially in the open court and she plays the passing lane

Kaylee Garcia (TKO) uses her athleticism nicely, also understands how to defend, when to switch and when to trap but she has good timing and reads plays, came up with several steals not to leave out blocked some shots

Brooklyn Roberson (TKO) athletic and did a good job of attacking and finishing, this includes after contact and she didn’t mind the physicality which is good at this stage of her career. She also battled for rebounds

Lakailah Byrd (Madisonville Mustangs) SWB is the acronym and it means speed with ball and SDM is #sizedontmatter and I use the hashtag to let you know that means “when you can play” and her ability to control the ball with her speed not to leave out her pressure defense are big pluses

Justine Whaley (Madisonville Mustangs) SDM yet again because seeing her not only rebound but going C2C , that’s coast to coast and under control speaks volumes as everything else will fall into place because “she gets it” and understands how to defend on the ball

Shemia Morning (Madisonville Mustangs) long and athletic, yep that just jumps at me because it’s the profile I look at because it’s the profile many look at at the next level and watching her attack strongly, finish and rebound the same way combined with her upside is pretty nice

KAYLYN BLANCHARD

Mackenzie Teuton (JPE 2027) man oh man, I don’t even take notes on her anymore other than mental and she’s showing me she’s going to be one of the top point guards in her class because she just comprehends the simple things and combines that with doing big things ahead of her years. She sees the floor very well, she makes the pass under pressure and since she can score, she’s definitely going to create problems

Sydney Marshall (JPE 2027) didn’t stay all day on Saturday yet Sunday solidified what I saw the first time I saw her, she can score in the flow or just take a game over, on either end and she is so powerful and poised right now, I’m just envisioning what she’ll be when she’s in high school and it’s scary, not for me but those attempting to guard her

Rylee Poindexter (JPE 2027) on day one she showed the mid to long-range as well as attacking the rim as she fell into that “finds ways to score” category yet on day 2, she showed the pull-up in transition, the step-back jumper, and scored with either hand as I just SMH

Rachel Roberts (JPE 2027) gave me a mini show and what I’ll be seeing a lot of and that is she can score in droves and multiple ways as she creates her mid to long and attacks the rim with ease but she hustles on both ends and makes things happen

Noelle Swanson (JPE 2027) not sure if she’s related to the folks with the TV dinners yet she was cooking pretty nicely showing the mid to long-range, wait. she’s long and athletic, plays the passing lane, attacks the rim before and after the steal, and left a lasting first impression

Bailey Burns (JPE 2027) after seeing her at #DuelStates she continued to show me something different and yeah I knew she finished strongly and had some nice moves around the rim but she also put it on the floor away from the basket and shot more of the midrange, oh and she rebounded

Marvinisha Norman (JPE 2027) her strength and attacking the basket powerfully continues to impress me as well as her ability to create her shot but her ballhandling as well as seeing the floor also stood out, just like watching her play the passing lane and either score or assist after the steal
