Clear Springs Looking Up
Last season some of Clear Springs fans got on me a little for picking Hightower in the playoffs. After upsetting the Hurricanes, they were then upset by Elsik who went on to represent Region 3 in Austin. What the Chargers wound up doing was having one of the best records in the state last season (33-3) and on Friday morning they showed exactly why I picked them to be one of the teams to beat as they put on one of the most impressive shooting performances I have ever seen. Their game against Cy Fair was one of those I have witnessed only a few times as they missed only a handful of shots in the first quarter, jumping out to leads of 15-0 and 20-2, while cruising to a 51-19 lead at the half. In their two games on Thursday, they won 81-36 against the Bobcats and Houston Madison 92-22, ironically two of the top girls’ basketball programs in the area this millennium however both of those teams are rebuilding and have bright young players coming up, which is what was said about the Chargers when their first varsity squad hit the floor running. Today is the biggest day for GBB in the Houston area as far as ranked teams playing each other, BLOG. Several questions will be answered but whether they win the Texas Invitational or not, Clear Spring will have a voice in who heads to Austin.
