5A Early Look at Region 3 pt 2
CLEAR SPRINGS
Many experts were surprised by the success of the Chargers without a significant presence in the paint however when you have a team loaded with next level guards, you do what yo do best and their press is as good as any that I’ve seen in my many years of watching. Aaliyah Brown, Kaylin Roher and JoAnn Lira had already made a name for them selves and when Courtney Latham and Brooke McCarty arrived, this team went to another level. I expect Alysse Dowdy and Paige Tippett to be significant contributors to the team as I have already placed the bullseye on their backs.
CY WOODS
When you lose 30 percent of your offense from one player as Cy Woods did with the graduation of Jennifer Nash, most teams would falter however expect this team to be even better as Justice Crisp, Audrey Garcia and Camille Williams follow the lead of 5’0 tough as nails point guard Chelsi Grimes. That, along with not one, but two Ogwumike’s tells me that some folks just might be in for a surprise.
CY FALLS
What’s that old saying, the bigger they are the harder they Falls? Okay maybe not, but if you think losing Larissa Scott and Macy Moore is going to stop the Eagles from soaring, think again! Carol Willie is developing into a fine post player and the loss of Moore will be replaced by Temple transfer, All State point guard Loryn Goodwn. Needless to say, Shermise Robertson, Kit Mtoyer and Sedalia Ellis have enough firepower between them to require a permit and this team may wind up being better than last seasons.
ELSIK
Elsik surprised many by winning Region 3 however along the way they exorcised some demons. First, they made it to the R3 Final 4 after losing a big lead to Bellaire in the previous seasons Elite 8 and they could have folded after a big loss to Cy Falls early in the season, but after knocking them off a few days later, Elsik went on a tear. Their “Big Three”, Akunna Elonu, Jasmine Ocanas and Crystal Porter are now seniors yet those same seniors haven’t lost a district game since they’ve been at Elsik, that probably won’t change this season either. What might change is their ability to repeat with the losses of Lindsey Cypher, Telissa Spence and Raven Hill
