Irving MacArthur State Champs
I called Irving MacArthur the best team in the state during the preseason simply because of what I saw them do over the summer and Alexis Jones was the best player I had seen in the country, in fact, one of the best I’ve ever seen. Playing on a team coached by her dad and compiled of players from her high school team probably was no easy task since she left one of the club powerhouses to do so, however this team went against the powerhouses and not only competed, but came out on top several times primarily because of Jones. You will always have good players, sometimes you will see great players, however very seldom will you find special players, someone that makes everyone around them better and someone that can take over a game when they have to, or in other words, find ways to win. After falling one rebound and one assist short of a triple double in their semifinal victory over San Antonio Wagner, Alexis recorded a triple double in I-Macs 74-51 win over Georgetown scoring 25 points, pulling down 11 rebounds and dishing out 14 assists and was named MVP of the tournament. This game will be televised again several times on the Fox Sports Network, so if you haven’t seen this kid, you are missing something very special.
