2020 Alamo City Hoops Girls Elite Combine pt 2
SENAIDA BARRIENTOS
UNIVERSAL CITY, TEXAS-There are few things more refreshing to me in girls basketball than being right about players and something that’s equally refreshing is finding new talent because I started doing this for the simple reason of “talent is everywhere” and I stress over and over for parents and players to not get caught up into the nonsense that goes with youth sports because there are politics, I actually cursed the head guy out with ASGR and the guy doing his rankings at the time who is now over Hoopgurlz.com ranked my daughter 207 at the guard spot she had over 100 D1 offers and plays in the WNBA now so I said all of that to say this, don’t worry about if you’re a player, show what you can do on the court and I saw some unseen talent, at least to me, that showed me what they could do at the Alamo City Hoops Girls Elite Combine
ABIGAIL LEBHERZ
2021
Juliana Tapia-5’5 guard SA Hustlers/Hoops Elite Gold (O’Connor HS)
Tapia showed she could create her shot while being tightly defended and also attacked the basket strong and finished after contact but she also did a good job shooting the long ball as well as the midrange
Larissa Sanchez-5’8 guard (Holmes HS)
Sanchez understands how to set defenders up to get her shot off and when you combine that with her ability to handle the ball, it gives you an idea on her consistently showing the pull-up jumper off the dribble
Kendall Dominguez-5’8 guard Texas Hoops (Somerset HS)
Dominguez showed a nice offensive mix including shooting the mid to long-range, creating her shot and a smooth crossover she showed numerous times which enabled her to have defenders leaning as she attacked the rim as well
Daleah Edwards-5’6 guard Hustlers (SA Veterans Memorial)
Edwards used her athleticism nicely as she found ways to get to the basket but her ability to attack the basket had a bonus because she finished with either hand. To add more, she handled the ball and saw the floor
Audry Hornaday-5’7 guard Valley Rebels Elite (Sharyland Pioneer HS)
Hornaday was one of many players that impressed me by creating her shot and adding a pull-up jumper but she also played the passing lane well and she saw the floor and made pinpoint passes through defenders
Adryan Alvarez-5’6 guard El Paso Hustle (Del Valle HS)
Alvarez is a battler, she goes after loose balls and had several tie-ups while applying pressure yet she showed range and was one of the best long ball shooters throughout the day and she also was one of the best “catch and shoot”
Maddie Soto-5’10 forward Texas Hoops (Antonian College Prep)
Soto has good size and athleticism and when you mix in she understands how to create her shot and hit the mid to long-range, I was happy to see that she also followed her shot which is a lost art. She also rebounded well on both ends
Abigail Lebherz-6’1 post-Texas Hoops (Antonian College Prep)
Lebherz showed me a lot, immediately because her size and frame stood out and quickly saw she could score multiple ways around the basket but she also passes the ball well and showed the mid to long-range but when she handled the ball in the open court and hit the stop and pop…
TSE MORGAN
2022
Ariyel Gordon-5’8 guard SA Hoops Elite (Harlan HS)
Gordon definitely has something going because when you combine her first step with her crossover, that gives her numerous options on getting by defenders and getting to the basket which she does well, playing the passing lane was the icing on the cake
Braylyn Sosa-5’6 guard DBK Premier (New Braunsfels HS)
Sosa creates her shot, like many of the other players did at the showcase but she understands how to create contact which enabled her to get to the free-throw line numerous times and not only did she connect from the line, her range was on
Jordan Shepard-5’2 guard (Judson HS)
Shepard is athletic, applied heat on the defensive end and plays within herself on the offensive end but she also shot the long ball as well as attacked the basket strong and finished with contact
Jillian Torres-5’6 guard-SA Unite (Brennan HS)
Torres showed me a few things before the games began but when she dropped the “hez” numerous times, I saw what else was coming. She attacked and finished with contact, saw the floor and dropped the long ball
Empress Roberts-5’6 guard Nike Pro Skills Austin (Harker Heights HS)
Roberts’ defense was strong, no matter what the situation was and her athleticism was used nicely on both ends as she applied pressure while guarding or being guarded as she attacked hard and took the lick with ease. She also saw the floor and created her shot
Leandra Antopia-5’2 guard Hoopstarz (Somerset HS)
Antopia definitely falls into the category I hashtagged over a decade ago, size don’t matter when you can play and she thinks the game, plays within herself and understands how to run a squad and by controlling the tempo and seeing the floor, that’s a good base
Melissa Horneda-5’1 guard SA Unite Skills Academy (Antonian College Preparatory)
Horneda was tough as nails, got hit in the mouth and kept going but again, size don’t matter when you can play and she was another guard with the hesitation “hez” that got defenders to lean and that was added to her creating her shot and seeing the floor
Vivianna Solis-5’4 guard Texas Hoops (Warren HS)
Solis plays under control and plays within herself and by that, she doesn’t force anything however she sees the floor and can make the pass look easy under pressure, trust me, that’s not easy and to keep the defense honest, she shot the three very well
Tse Morgan-6’0 post-Somerset Hoopstarz (Somerset HS)
Morgan uses her body nicely and understands positioning. Good hands and footwork, she finished strong, blocked shots and rebounded on both ends of the floor but she also run the floor after the outlet pass and in the half-court, she showed she could attack the basket from outside the paint
Marissa Seaton-5’9 guard SA Hustlers/Hoops Elite
Seaton created her shot nicely and her pull-up jumper was just as nice as she took defenders in half-court or used it in transition but she also attacked the basket from everywhere and showed she could finish after contact
JAELYN MORRISON
2023
Emily Tatum-5’9 guard LB Chaos (Lampass HS)
Tatum did a little bit of everything well, that, combined with her size has me looking forward to her progression but she already creates her shot and attacks the basket hard, she consistently dropped the long ball and she plays the passing lane
Alyssa Batton-5’6 guard Competitive Edge (Hutto HS)
Batton was another heady guard that plays within herself and understands how to run a squad. She handles the ball well, under pressure and she sees the floor but she also can not only attack the basket but shoot the three
Senaida Barrientos-5’7 guard Competitive Edge (Smithville HS)
Barrientos was one of many pleasant surprises I was given a heads up on before the event and watching her in pain and getting iced, I asked was she okay and her response was “oh I’m going” and did she. She is another ho created her shot but does it effortlessly and her pull-up from mid to long-range and solid knowledge what to do was definitely enlightening
Jaelyn Morrison-5’9 forward SA Infinity (JM Hanks HS)
Morrison’s defense initially caught my eye during the skils but her frame, athleticism and just desire all stood out but in the games, she attacked, created her shot and knocked the mid down with ease, just as she attacked the rim and finished after contact
Tyanna Simpson-5’10 forward Competitive Edge (Killeen HS)
Simpson has two major things to build on, she’s strong and she’s athletic and watching her rebound on both of the courts and getting up and down the court brought a smile because she rebounds with authority and speaking of authority, she finishes the same way
