Truth Hurts but keeping it real doesn’t
HOUSTON, Texas- As I was taking my morning walk listening to Tidal, I passed by a church and Lizzo popped on with Truth Words and I laugh every time I hear that song because I took a DNA test years ago as well years ago and unlike her results, mine came back I don’t do cliques, never been a suck up or worse, a kiss ass, especially during the process when my daughter played, because she could PLAY, and the stories I could tell would go over many heads so it’s a waste of my typing but seeing some of these parents heads so far up people butts, you can see their faces when the people smile, I stole that line and it fits
I saw firsthand the politics of the game, certain alliances were in place depending on teams, logos or people with power. I went completely off on quite a few people when my daughter played on the circuit, going completely off against players ranked ahead of her in front of hundreds of college coaches and although the rankings didn’t change, my barely 5’8 daughter wound up with over 100 D1 offers, not letters, over 200 of them, actual offers and when you look at around 1 out of 100 play D1 ball coming out of ball, stats on NCAA website has 1.4% however that doesn’t include JUCO and players from outside of the Unites States receiving scholarships and now that portal is constantly around a thousand kids, hopefully you get the picture
I know many listen to flawed statements coming from people with an erroneous algorithm when in fact, they can’t even spell the damn word, social media has definitely done more harm that good, I said that would happen in 2009 yet was laughed at by some, are you laughing now? During the process I took advice from a handful of people, Greg Cook, played at LSU, daughter Aubrey was one of top posts in country and she played at Texas, and Vernon Starks, daughter Takia, is the best 7th grader I ever saw, mine included, and watching her play 17U and dropping 40 on one of the top teams in the country, she JUST DID IT, against before starring at Westfield and Texas A&M.
Both men have passed on but the knowledge, guidance and being taught to be aware of the BS that came was priceless and recently Jaelyn Richard-Harris (Dekaney) tweeted about she wasn’t ranked nationally and wound up going to LSU and I don’t if she was because I don’t read other rankings, I look at things with fresh eyes and I had her Top 25 in Texas, best PG in area and whatever I say that I said is documented, wish they had Instagram to show, never mind, that was not good but she could absolutely go, several small PG’s before her, Alaina Lee and Porsche Landry, both played for Madison were a couple of the best as well
I said all of that to say, don’t worry about nonsense, if your daughter can play, she’ll show it on the court, no matter what anyone else says or thinks, myself included but always remember two of the stupidest comments ever used, “there’s something for everyone”, 400K high school seniors, less than 1500 colleges and universities throws that out of the window or “if you can play, they will find you” and I’m thinking, how in the hell is that supposed to happen when several talented players go unnoticed. Back to Jaelyn, I loved watching her play, the first time I saw her was with the Houston Lady Roadrunners, the team was filled with numerous next level players, many D1 but they went to school, free or close to it read more
I started to drop a bombshell on the pettiness of the people running Adidas and Nike, as well as HG when my daughter played who considered me “uppity” and wouldn’t stay “in my place” but I explained to them before Eazy, Dre and Ice started their group, I was an original member, that didn’t go to well as they penalized her and one day Kenny Kalina called me and asked me “do you want to write” and I responded with do you read what I say about these, well numerous bad words and he said, yes, I admire your honesty so I never would’ve done this had it not been for him, yet here I am and remember, this is coming from someone’s daughter who is in that 1% of that 1% to play in the WNBA
