2019 Tyrone Johnson Showcase Tip Sheet plus
SHAKAHIA WARMSLEY
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS- The Tyrone Johnson Showcase is one of the top non NCAA Certified events in the Southwest, not just Texas and the 17th annual was filled with talented teams from across the state as well as an always exciting Lady Pumas squad from Louisiana. I’m always excited to see two things, new talented players and the progression of those I’ve already seen and when I do a Tip Sheet it’s based on a number of things however the main thing it’s usually based on ties in to what I have pinned on Twitter,” it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and here are some of the standouts that , well stood out. Keep in mind, this was a GPR Certified Event which means if you follow me social media as well as my Blog, you’re in for a whole lot more. Also note that I’m dropping the #AllEyezOnMe Tip Sheet starting tomorrow, well probably
ZION NEAT
2020
Shakahia Warmsley-guard (Urban Heroes DJ) one of the best scorers in the event, well every event I’ve seen her in this season I could say that. Long ball, midrange, to the basket and her range is from home and that’s around Shreveport, LA she has some tools and loves the pressure as well as applying it
Aakiyah Sorrells-guard (Austin Elite RFW) they call her “microwave” and after the shooting performance I saw her put on I see why. When she gets hot, she’s hard to contain as she made baskets every way imaginable either by attacking or the mid to long range
Avery Jones-post (Austin Elite TTR) I remember a movie called “The Beast Within” and she was definitely that at times on the inside. I love seeing players go after everything and that “you won’t outwork me” mindset is something you can’t teach
Devin Mayberry-post (Austin Elite Supergirls) talk about taking a jump, pun intended, and I look at the work ethic she brings no matter what the situation is. One of the standouts at the camp, her presence was definitely felt during #TJShowcase as her sheer power enables her to control the paint at times, finishes strong and rebounds
Miannah Little-guard (Waco Lady Panthers) explosiveness caught my eye years ago and she’s channeled that energy so well that she knows when it’s time to take over and that she can do scoring a dozen in row to lead a comeback or just in the flow, inside or outside
Maya Simon-guard (Corpus Christi Thunder White) saw this squad multiple times and in the opening game, I loved her “ups” as she elevates over players. She has length, athletic and runs floor in transition yet when she dropped the 3 at the buzzer on Sunday for the win, that did it
Ali Meyer-guard (San Antonio Islanders) repeat after me “the game starts at the one” and although I may somewhat biased, I’m logical as well. She get’s the job done efficiently and makes those around her better, simple as that plus she can score if needed
Haley Smith-guard (Austin Elite Supergirls) old school mindset of just getting after it. She thinks the game and makes things happen on both ends of the court. She threads the needle on the money for assists, nice stop and pop or attacks relentlessly plus she defends
Zion Neat-guard (Fury Haney/Brinkoeter Orange) love the way she sets defenders up, either to take off the dribble or just launch the long ball but what really creates issues is she can nail the midrange so that’s a pretty nice Pick 3 to have in your arsenal
Breyla Hadnot-guard (SETX Elite) does so many little things that don’t show up on scoresheet yet she fills in plenty of blanks as she makes plays, defends and showed she can score from various angles
Jimena Cortez-post (Sparks SGBC) strong inside moves and finishes even stronger, with players hanging on her. Nice hands and footwork, runs the floor
LONDYN STEERE
2021
De Ajia Brown-post (Austin Elite Fire) this squad is talented and the improvement of several individuals stood out from earlier this season, Brown was one of them as she battles inside for rebounds, on both ends and doesn’t mind getting physical
Ellie Ward-combo guard (Waco Elite Blue) off the dribble or mid to long range, she has so many tools in her repertoire and she finishes with contact, that’s always good as well as her ability to see the floor
Mikayla Johnson-guard (Rock Nation 2021 Red) I hashtag #sizedontmatter for a number of reasons and do change with the player but the bottom line is when you are determined to get it done, no obstacles will interfere and watching her shoot the ball was a treat
Kaitlyn Smith-guard (Fury Haney/Brinkoeter Navy) plenty of shooters in this organization, always has and that’s a fact and watching Smith get going was something to see as she creates and drops from all over
Amanda Miller-post (Corpus Christi Thunder JV White) athletic and long is always good and when you’re under control, that’s good as well. She attacked over and over, especially from the baseline and showed plenty of upside
Maggie Baker-guard (SETX Elite JV) showed me a whole lot in a little amount of time and an array of threes were included as they were sandwiched between some nice midrange jumpers. Scorers mentality had defense on full alert
Londyn Steere-guard (Rock Nation 2021 Red) silky smooth score that just finds ways to the ball in the basket. That midrange was clicking and I guess she decided to mix it up for fun and the long ball, taking defenders off the dribble or just an acrobatic shot or two for those watching on Baller TV
Daisy Rodriguez-guard/forward (Lady Wolfpack) this squad is a must see, they keep getting better and I’m not exaggerating and Daisy went completely off. That mid to long range has taken a jump, she knows how to create and was extremely accurate putting the ball in the basket
ALEX NEIMETH
2022
Alex Neimeth-guard (Rock Nation 2022 Red) I don’t just blurt obscurities to make myself look bright, I think my work over the years speaks for itself and let me say this, I liked her game the first time I saw her on a video and really liked her earlier this year but what she did under pressure makes me love it. During crunch time, she took it a different level and if team needed a basket or a defensive play, she delivered, plenty of upside left
Asani McGee-forward (Lady Thunder) ultra-athletic ability with huge upside. She has great timing, reads passing lane and I definitely love that and her first step is explosive as she attacks the basket strongly
Desiree Wooten-guard (DFW Elite EYBL 16U) one of those never takes a play off guards that just brings it constantly. Get’s to the rim whenever she wants, from wherever she wants against whomever. Going full speed and watching her pull-up for that midrange is work of art and I see a masterpiece in her future
Abegayle Galindo-guard (Corpus Christi Thunder JV Grey) pushes the ball in transition and sees the floor. To top that off, she makes pinpoint passes going full speed
Angie Sacco -forward (Rock Nation CP) strong inside play, good hands and footwork and finishes with contact plus she runs the floor, makes good outlet passes and rebounds on both ends
Danielle King -guard (Texas Elite 2022 Silver) explosive first step, good athleticism and finished consistently with contact. Showed she could create her shot in tight situations and she just brings so much energy
Jaylinn Price-wing (Rock Nation 2022 Blue) being athletic and long has it perks and when you use it nicely and under control like she does, good things can happen and they did as she finished with contact and created problems on defense
Makayla Wilford-guard (Austin Elite Dragons) mixing it up is always a good thing and I’m watching multiple game when I’m in the zone, she was too because I turned my head, passing lane steal for 2, then a midrange jumper, then another steal and another jumper, in 2 minutes
CINDY FOKA
2023
Sara Samuels-wing (San Antonio Islanders JV) plenty of upside combined with long arms, athleticism and energy which even gave me a boost. Hasn’t been playing long, protentional is through the roof as she gets off the floor and gets after everything
Treasure McNeil-guard (Hoopstarz 9th Grade) explosive is one word I’d use because I didn’t have to take notes. Attacks the basket and finishes with contact, plays passing lane, defends and showed she could score from outside
Brooke Jones-guard (AD Elite) stop and pop and drop it from any and everywhere, she has a scorer’s mentality at a young age. Quick release and accurate and she wants the ball when it’s pressure time
Suma Carsala-guard (Cy Fair Maul) the event was loaded with young point guards about to enter HS with bright futures, she’s one of them as she already understands how to run a team and handle pressure as well as apply heat
Aleah Pina-guard (Phoenix Revolution 8th Grade) another heady PG that’s probably a combo because she can definitely score and run a team and speaking of run, watching her zig-zag by defenders going coast to coast for baskets was an early Sunday treat
Lily Brown-guard (Urban Heroes Elite Platinum) she’s one of those players that’s a gym rat, everywhere I look I see her either at camps or events and her passion doesn’t go unnoticed because she’s ice under pressure and scores countless ways
Sarah Morales-guard (SA Lady Hoops 23/24) good sense for the game, aka BB-IQ and knows how to change the momentum either by scoring, defending or igniting her teammates and that is a big triple threat
2024
Madison Caldwell-forward (Title IX Elite) ain’t nothing like leaving a lasting first impression playing up and MC was ready to drop the mic with her athleticism through the roof as well as blowing by defenders and showing pretty good range
Cindy Foka-guard (Phoenix Revolution 7th Grade) caught my eye last year and made the MS Tip Sheet but I’ve combined them as she’s combined more to her game as she played with 8th grade as well. Athletic and won’t quit, showed the same with the older team but her upside is scary as she is jumping out of the gym now
Madison McKinnon-PG (Sa Lady Hoops 24) talk about taking a jump, her poise under pressure sold me last season however the growth she’s showing at the one tells me it’s nowhere near over. She makes the right passes at the right time to the right players, she handles the ball under pressure and she can score
