2019 All Eyez On Me Session 1 Tip Sheet
ALAYSIA GUDE battling
ROUND ROCK, TEXAS-The second annual All Eyez On Me Individual Showcase held at the beautiful Round Rock Sports Center had tons of talent, in fact the brains behind Austin Elite, Fonzelle Martin and Tommy “Speedy” Gregg told me that there was an abundance of early registrations coming in so we put our heads together and decided to split the event into two sessions to assure each player in attendance would get a proper evaluation so I’m dropping the 20 plus players I caught in the opening session right now, I’m still getting my thoughts together on how I’ll do the close to 60 in session 2 but it will be out no later than a couple of days. Parents I’ve had a saying for a very long time “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and over the years I’ve added an amendment “it’s also who sees you do it” and before I drop this, follow me on social media, Facebook, Twitter or The Gram, all Girlz Prep Report or click my BLOG because you might miss something from event so here we go
Alaysia Gude-combo- this young lady continues to add more and watching her “thread the needle” in transition already has my eyes wide open. She attacks the basket strong and handles pressure from defense yet she applies pressure on D as well and her 3 at the buzzer with a player hanging on her got two thumbs up
Alyxa Matrtinez-guard- the more I see her the more I can tell she’s in the gym and one thing you can’t teach is BB-IQ and heart, okay that’s two thing and speaking of 2, her midrange is coming around as well as her ballhandling, plenty of upside and love the way she moves with the ball
Chase Goetz-guard/forward-right name because she GETS after it and that midrange was definitely on point. Has good moves on the inside, I wrote UP which means she elevates for rebounds and has a knack for being around the ball
Cyncere McDonald-guard-okay another lost art is “talking on the court” and “being supportive” and I’m sincere about that, little play on words. Her change of direction going full speed is nice, especially since she’s under control. Her first step that gets her to the basket or that pull/up, pick your poison
Emery Esponoza-guard-this young lady here is always a pleasant surprise as she is a “sizedontmatter guard because she can play. Handles the ball well, knocks the mid to long range down consistently and sees the floor. Always under control, nice upside
Emily Genovese-guard-the midrange is a lost art so I get a kick out of seeing players use it and her ability to create and get open to take it was nice to see. Her form is nice and when you can do simple things right at this age, that’s a plus, so was her going strong to the rim
Grace Ridoutt-guard-spoke to her and her dad before camp, she seemed nervous and I told her I was one of the most knowledgeable people in this I know and she cracked up. Well I wasn’t laughing when she turned it on, she has several tools that are there including “wanting the ball under pressure” and delivering. Sees the floor, creates, consistent midrange, yeah, I see ya G
GWENDLYN MC GREW attacking CYNCERE MC DONALD defending
Gwendlyn McGrew-PG- wrote about her a few weeks ago, others will take credit but all bets are off on this one as I’m saying #BCSLock, well I said that a month ago. She’s 5’9 in the 7th grade and has a scorer’s mentality yet can set teammates up for gimmes. Gets to the rim effortlessly, whenever she wants and drains the long ball. She could start on several HS teams in Houston now and pay dividends, check my record, on the court, I AIN’T BEEN WRONG YET
Jah’ Dae Bussey-forward- it’s always nice to see player step outside of the box and in her case, outside of the paint where she showed solid hands and footwork to go along with a powerful body enabling her to finish with players hanging on her. She also faced the basket and that quick release on the short jumper was working
JaMya Brown-PG- she brought a whole lot to the table with shifty ballhandling in the drills to showing it during game situation. Nice athletic moves going to the basket while under control, handles ball under pressure and made hard passes look easy going to the basket while being defended
Jayda Reece- guard/forward- when I’m covering an event, I’m in a zone and I glance at faces but that doesn’t register until after the fact because I’m into this. Reece has been a couple of Tip Sheets already as well as several tweets so I knew I knew her but OMG, she’s added a floater, baseline to baseline defense and she actually turns it up under pressure. Off the dribble or midrange, she’s going to be a terror #D1Lock
Jena Warden-forward-her ceiling is “cathedral” because it’s not telling how high she finishes but being one of the youngest players in attendance, you’d never know. Her mental toughness can’t be taught and when you handle pressure going against older players, believe me I notice. The pull up going full speed, the midrange from whatever angle and that form already has me on alert
Kendall Sneed-PG-locked her at #D1 after initial sighting, poised under pressure, creates under pressure and delivers under pressure as I give you more things you just can’t teach and having these things before HS says a whole lot. She sees the play before it develops, she attacks and finishes and she scores from outside, I do not GUESS folks
Mackenzie Amos-guard- another who fooled me with shyness taking picture but guess what, I already saw her so playing possum doesn’t fool me. When the bright lights come on, she’s ready, long and athletic, that midrange is looking pretty good but even better is she gets after it on defense, dives for loose balls, another lost art
Madison Borjas-combo- another #sizedontmatter guard that won’t back down and if you back away, long ballllll, if you’re too close, step back for 2 or 3. She’s heady and creates under pressure and she pushes the ball in transition or can control tempo, plenty of upside left is the scary part
MADSION HURTA
Madison Hurta-combo- some kids are just “gamers” and they relish the pressure, she’s definitely one of them and when you can think the game at this stage, to go along with her solid skill set, ability to create her own shot, mid to long, or just set teammates up, big things are in store. She attacks from everywhere and plays under control
Tynia Minnitt-guard- you have players that are fat and players that are fast with the ball and she’s the latter, plus even more importantly, she’s under control. She’s athletic and attacks well, blowing by defenders with a nice first step and she sees the floor
Valerie Edson-PG- the game has and always will start at the one and watching her handle the ball under pressure, multiple defenders at time was an eye opener but they were wide opened watching her go C2C for an assist or basket numerous times. Under control, sees the floor and can score, check, double-check and triple check
Viviana Moreno-combo-her name preceded her and her game left a lasting impression because she handles the ball under control, under pressure and she scores, under pressure. That change of direction going full speed, the midrange being defended tightly, creating her own shot all were great but that behind the back pass for an assist between two defenders ……
Zaranique Nealy-guard-the defense caught my eye immediately yet the more I watched the more I noticed. I gave her the “SHOT OF THE DAY” with a step back at the buzzer, her midrange and form are nice as well as her quick release but she also knows how to get to the basket and finish as well as see the floor
Madison Fritz-guard- plays the passing lane, you don’t know how I love to see that because it leads to easy baskets and she had a few. Let’s not overlook the fact that she creates her own shot and can n ail the mid to long range but she THINKS the game, on both ends
