2019 State Line Battle
Mariah Samuel attacking against Tori Britt
HOUSTON, TEXAS- The Texas Phenoms State Line Battle was on fire once again this past weekend and I stopped by on Saturday to catch some of the action with several talented to players who will be entering high school next season as well as those who will be heading into their final season along with many from the 2021 and 2022 class. Barbers Hill PG Jazlyn Marcus explosiveness caught my eye immediately while Anna Clinton’s length, timing and numerous put backs was more than a pleasant surprise. MI3 Jaylyn Lewis energy level stayed the same throughout Saturday, she attacks hard and finished acrobatically while Tori Britt’s upside and the fact that she’s a 2021, long and athletic is pretty promising.
Micah Mize defending
Flight Elite always surprises me with unknown talent, watching Micah Mize create and spot up dropping the long ball, she’s a 2021, was an eye opener not only for me but defenders while Kathia Preciado did a whole bunch of stuff on both ends of the floor. She finishes effortlessly after contact, her length on defense can create problems for offensive players but even more intriguing to me is that she gets hers “in the flow”. Emily Lowe wears number fooooo and that number always catches my eye, that was my daughters club number and she showed went completely off in game 2 making her presence felt. By the way, she’s a 2023 and was playing up and always remember “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and although that’s over many heads, trust me. Also trust me on a couple of Texas Phenoms players that will also be entering high school next season and I don’t know if they’ll pull off the Courtney Williams and Monique Bedford entrance at North Shore but they will definitely leave their mark when they exit Aarianna Masters sold me three years ago with her poise and her game has taken off. I’m serious, she’s threading the needle with no look passes on the money that some seniors heading to college can’t make. On top of that her ability to attack and finish all types of ways, think I caught one on the gram, know I missed a classic but she’s young and there’s many more coming. Shalayne Gould will be joining Masters and I definitely have her going completely off in a middle school tournament a few months ago but this young lady just keeps getting better, coast to coast over and over has always been something to see but I foresee her as becoming a “nightmare to defend” in the open court, remember, I don’t guess, I address and my stamp of approval is on both.
Ayanna Motley
Love the improvement from 2020 Mariah Samuel, never takes a play off, defends baseline to baseline and just makes things happen on both ends. I guess Ayanna Motley wants to close out her career with a bang, the Texas Phenoms soon to be senior definitely is one of the most improved players I’ve seen. Body, check, strength, check, desire, check, effort, well you get it, or you should but watching her drop step has me dropping the mic, well pen and keyboard
