2019 Space City Slam Tip Sheet
LAYLA GERACI (KATY CHAOS WHITE)
HOUSTON, TEXAS- The Space City Slam hosted by Prime Time Sportz gave me yet another glimpse of talented players from the area I hadn’t seen as well as some new ones from across the state but it also took me back 3 or 4 years ago when I first caught some talented SETX players not yet in HS , I’ll have a mini on them as well as the Rock Nation group that traveled from Round Rock coming up but here are some of the standouts from the weekend. Follow me on b oth Twitter and Instagram for even more and don’t forge the “mini’s from Simmie” coming on my BLOG
HARLEIGH RAWLS (SETX 8th GRADE)
Jali McGrough (RPBA 8th Grade) athletic, understands the basics and has plenty of upside. Played passing lane and got to the basket multiple times
Layla Geraci (Katy Chaos White) creates her own shot, attacks the rim and handles the ball under pressure in transition
Alex Swift (365 Elite) good rebounder on both ends, nice timing on blocks and is physical defending and scoring as she finishes after the lick
Dani St Denis (Katy Chaos Blue) combo guard that can a run or take a game over offensively with a blink of an eye. Long, anticipates well and nice mid to long range shot
Emily Williamson (SETX) when you hit a shot from half court I catch on “the gram” years ago, you know I wanna stay and see what’s next. Well she also can hit the mid and attack well not to mention plays D
Deyjah Ray (Skyrise 2024) talk about progression, turned in on Championship Sunday from the one. Nice first step coupled with quickness, she blew past defenders and threaded the needle for assists easily
Ali Diop (RSPA 16U) was good on Saturday, Sunday she just went off several times when I watched. Plays passing lane, acrobatic baskets after contact, good defense
Sally Tuatagaloa (Rock Nation 2021 Red) the alley-oop isn’t what sold me, attacking strong to the basket, playing the passing lane and just battling for everything including loose ball had sealed the deal already
Harleigh Rawls (SETX 8th Grade) she’s a gamer, wants ball under pressure, battles for everything, applies pressure, rebounds and scores multiple ways
JANIYA MAXIE (RSPVA Varsity)
Janiya Maxie (RSPA Varsity) explosive off ground, strong body and athletic is a great combination and she used it well. Finished after contact numerous times, attacks from wing, nice pull-up
Jayda Argumon (SETX Elite) from day one she was among the players from the squad that caught my eye immediately and 4 years later, I was right yet again. Effortlessly gets to the basket in traffic, nice outside shot and when it’s crunch time, it’s her time
Amyrie Evans (Rock Nation 2022 Blue) attacks the basket relelntlessly over and over, splitting defenders along the way. Also showed she could create her shot under pressure
Anahlynn Murray (Lady East Elite) one of those “never takes a play-off” type of player and her energy trickles over as she just keeps coming at you. Multiple offensive weapons on display that I enjoyed
Aniyah Lewis (Skyrise Red) strong body, good size, around the magic number of 6’0, and athletic, plus she isn’t in HS yet. Love the upside, scores in the paint, rebounds on both ends
ANAHLYNN MURRAY (LADY EAST ELITE)
Tamia Alexander (MI-3 6th) talk about throwback, haven’t seen a lot of players rebounding on the floor but she has a knack of being around the ball. Powerful scorer and at this stage, oh my, remember that
Emily King (Rock Nation College Park) excellent timing, plays passing lane, both of which I love to see but she understands how to score in tight situations, off dribble or outside, plus she rebounds and defends
Brittany Anderson (RPBA 7th Grade) long, athletic, anticipates, showed she could score from wing, good upside
Annasia Harris (SWAG Elite) there’s fast and fast with the ball, yet there’s also fast with the ball under control and she split the seams nicely doing that while understanding how to set teammates up
Jakayla Thompson (Rock Nation 2022 Red) the game starts at the one, she definitely is one that can start a flurry off by scoring, defending and assisting. Plays passing lane, handles ball under pressure, mid to long, or off the dribble but she controls tempo nicely
