2018 Skilled Up Elite Tip Sheet

'18 Skilled Up 1

HOUSTON, TEXAS- The 2018 Skilled Up Elite Camp was an eye opener for many in attendance and at a fraction of the cost, players got a chance to LEARN, IMPROVE their skills and be SEEN and properly evaluated and all I can say is that I’ve been doing this a very long time, I know the politics involved firsthand, remember I have a daughter playing at the HIGHEST level, and I know much of what is being put out on social media is simply not true, aka BS, and the sad part about it is many parents continue to fall for it, so be it, what do I know. Well what I know is talent and let me start with some of the standouts from the HS Division at Coach Johnson’s event

2019

Ashlyn Rogers-guard (Alba Golden) saw the floor well, made good decisions and handled the ball under pressure

Dyani Robinson-guard (Langham Creek) one of the area’s most explosive guards as well as one of the fastest with the ball. Scores multiple ways, including the long ball

Kayla Pilson-wing (Westside) long and athletic, showed range as well as taking defenders off the dribble, reacts well on defense and plays the passing lane

Jada Lanier-guard (Klein Forest) brings it multiple ways, does things that don’t show up on score sheet, good defender, nice midrange and rebounds well

Briley Perkins-guard (Langham Creek) speed has improved as well as ability to create shot under pressure and just went completely off knocking it down from everywhere

2020

Victoria Baker-guard (Vista Ridge) attacks relentlessly, knocks down long ball, stop and pop in transition were all good signs but she hit the fade away, all bets are off

Hannah Wheeler-guard (Cedar Park) good BB-IQ, plays within herself, nice athleticism and showed she could score

Hannah Navarez-guard (Klein Collins) when you can shoot the three like she can, that’s good because she catches and shoots but that midrange was clicking too, nothing like options

GiGi Waddell-guard (Lutheran North) been watching her forever, size don’t matter when you can play and her explosive speed and defense was always there, setting up teammates for gimmes will go a long way

Rebekah Haley-guard (College Station) I was a believer when she was 11 and she put on a shooting exhibition. Falls into the pure shooter category, scores from everywhere

Fatou Samb-wing/forward (Westside) 6’4 with BCS offers are cool but her progression just keeps me beaming. Showing signs of dominance on both ends

Nicole Leff-forward (Cedar Park) lasting first impressions are always good, throwback mentality of will not be outworked, creates in paint and faces for baskets plus she rebounds, strongly

Arianna Sturdivant-guard (Ft Bend Bush) one of the best “scorers” in city, she finds ways to put it in the basket and that mid to long pull-up is hard to handle

2021

Alyssa Bonilla-guard (Canutillo HS) diving on the floor, defending and doing whatever at her size caught my eye and then she started scoring, either attacking or dropping the long ball and the OG caught the floater on IG, priceless

Jada Malone-forward (Village School) 6’4 and has nice hands and footwork, scores in paint nicely and rebounds well on both ends but she can shoot the mid to long range and is nowhere near finished product

Taylor Jackson- forward (Cypress Creek) attacks strong, battles for rebounds and defends baseline to baseline. Never takes a play-off mentality, scores both in the paint and facing the basket

Haleen Harris-guard (Cy Ranch) athletic and long enables her to create some issues, especially on defense as she anticipates well and keeps coming at you. Nice mid and attacks strong

Alexis Babineaux-forward (Westfield) hadn’t seen her since she was a back to the basket player but oh my, nice midrange, defends on perimeter and scores off dribble

Eliya Ellis-forward (Clear Creek) rugged comes to mind as she simply battles for everything off the board, in the air or floor plus she scores punishingly so you better be ready because she is

Da’Necia Trusty-forward (Alief Hastings) long, athletic and attacks strongly but even better is that she’s one of those players that stays after it off the glass. Nice touch around the basket

Kaley Perkins-guard (Langham Creek) 6’0 and can shoot the ball from mid to long range is always nice but when you’re long, can create and has the catch and shoot down, big upside
