2018 Skilled Up Evaluation Combine MS Tip Sheet
Carleigh Wenzel
Houston, TX- Lutheran North was buzzing with plenty of talented players, some still in elementary school up to high school juniors but my old hashtag keeps proving me right and that’s #talentiseverywhere so today I’m dropping stuff on the younger players both on here and on my blog as well as Twitter and Instagram but here’s a few to get you going
2022
Ashlon Jackson-6’0 guard- talk about adding to her game, she keeps doing just that and I called her one of the top players in her class, and I’m talking nationally, I guess 3 or 4 years ago, so the growth spurts have done nothing but enhance what was already there. She scores multiple ways including the long ball but what I see more of is the physicality she gives and takes as well as perimeter defense
R’Mani Taylor-5’6 guard-definitely impressed me the first time I saw her, again around 3 or 4 years ago and soon after I committed to saying she was a #BCSLock but what separates so many talented players are intangibles that just be can’t be taught and her poise at a young age definitely was key, coupled with her skills which include NBA range and the ability to see the floor
Carleigh Wenzel-5’10 guard-since I started writing and although I’ve watched the game change, one thing will always remain constant and that’s colleges love big guards that can shoot and Wenzel just left me speechless simply because she creates her own shot, under pressure, and nails it with a variety of options including the step back and a nice hesitation move plus her range is unlimited and it was simply target practice
Christeen Iwuala-6’2 post-I’m calling her a post but after doing some flashbacks in my head, I’m not committing to that. Strong body, finishes strong and rebounds on both ends however watching her handle the ball in the open court and face the basket and score from midrange will definitely give her numerous next level options as her upside is unlimited but on top of that, she’s a throwback player that battles after everything
Raeven Boswell- long and athletic at this stage is always good especially when you’re under control but watching her jump for rebounds or the midrange had me smiling. Nice first step and goes to coast to coast under pressure with ease
Trinity Santasiero-I just enjoy watching her shoot the ball, well catch and shoot the ball and it’s definitely pretty accurate. She creates her shot well but what she’s added is taking defenders off the dribble and when you can shoot the way she does, that creates options galore
Sydney Ward-5’11post- strong inside play, loves to rebound on both ends and finishes strong has been there but her defense has definitely improved on the perimeter along with her adding options to score like facing the basket and the drop step
Jazzmyn Williams-5’10 guard-long and athletic, you’ve heard the song from me yet this young lady does something I love to see and that’s “play the passing lanes” and it enables her to get easy baskets over and over. She handles the ball well under pressure and is showing the abilty to set defenders up for easy midrange jumpers but her desire to get better always impresses me
Makayla Evans
2023
Sammie Wagner-6’0 guard-I think 2 minutes after initial sighting I called her a #BCSLock and a couple I tweeted “throw away the key” so that seals it but she’s turning into more than a big guard that scores multiple ways as she’s definitely rebounding strong and finishing even stronger as her desire to keep adding to her already impressive game is shining brighter and brighter
Makayla Evans-5’6 guard- creates her own shot, nails the midrange and that explosive first step will definitely come in handy throughout her career as she can blow by defenders to get to the basket with ease plus she finishes with contact. Handles the ball well under pressure and understands the simple things already
Ja’Shelle Johnson-5’1 guard- handles ball well under pressure while already understanding how to set teammates up and her ability to see the floor while threading the needle on the break is huge. Nice pull-up combined with the ability to get to the basket only adds to what’s coming
Angel Tummbarello-5’2 guard- my overused line of “she’s no Angel on the court” keeps going because this young lady is showing me signs of definitely being hard to handle defensively. She attacks with pressure being applied like it’s not there, always under control but those fakes and midrange just had me going
2025
Andrea Sturdivant-5’1 guard-this young lady brings more heat now than some guards that have signed with D1 schools and she hasn’t played in MS yet. I love her fire and the intensity she shows now and it’s only going to continue to burn, trust me on that because when you can defend and recover like she does now, everything else will fall into place
LA Sneed-5’5 guard- right initials because BASKETBALL HOLLYWOOD is in her future, do I say #BCSLock now, why not because again when you show me POISE against older players that are already on their way to the next level, all bets are off. Love the stutter step but it’s only eclipsed by the basketball IQ she already possesses which is an intangible that can’t be taught. Midrange is going to give her options for everything else and watching her “see the floor” is still embedded in my memory
