Diamond In The Rough Tip Sheet part 1
2018 LAUREN DAVENPORT
DALLAS, TX- PassThaBall’s inaugural Diamond In The Rough read like a Who’s Who of talented players with offers on the table as well as those who will have multiple offers before it’s all said and done but the main objective was “these players came for a reason and that was to get better” and under the tutelage of Team Full Throttle, they took the young ladies through a variety of drills in from of numerous colleges coaches representing various divisions at the next level. I had a chance to catch some action, I’m late but I ain’t done, so here you go
Lauren Davenport, 6-1, forward, 2018, Plano-talk about proving me right without the growth spurt but Lolo amazed as a youngster and kept getting better. Range from all over as well as ability to create under pressure stands out but her ability to attack and defend is something she definitely worked at and has become player
Diamond Atchison, 5-5, guard, 2018, Waxahachie-always was fast with the ball, picked up on the simple things early and just kept progressing, playing under control to become a prototype PG that can score. Very vocal on the court, knows how to run a team
Alexia Martin, 5-6, guard, 2018, Bishop Dunne– very good ball handler and an offensive machine, scores off dribble while blowing by defenders and finishes strong after taking the lick. Good hesitation keeps everyone on toes, nice mid to long range a
Destini Whitehead, 5-11, guard, 2018, Tenaha– very athletic, loves to battle for everything and can defend strong baseline to baseline. Nice touch from around the basket, love the midrange game
Drew Myers, 5-10, guard, 2018, South Grand Praire– finishes strong, with either hand and after contact, defends well and rebounds on both ends
Kimora Westerfield, 5-4, guard, 2018, Wylie East– I guess “however you want it” fits her as well because off the dribble or from afar, she knows how to put the ball in the basket. Handles ball well, finishes strong and defends
Raija Todd, 5-9, guard, 2018, Cedar Hill- sold me from day one years ago, athleticism, ball handling and ability to score so many ways were there early. Has added a stop on a dime pull-up, defense is there and she just brings it
Sarah Bush, 5-7, guard, 2018, Waxahachie- sees floor and handles ball well, showed she could score from the wing as well as from mid/long range and did a good job defending on the perimeter and the length of the court
Reagan Montgomery, 5-7, guard, 2019, Whitney- more poised on the court, handles the ball under pressure, makes the right pass to the right people. Always could score, shot is falling from even deeper but I love how defense keeps taking a jump
Jordan Rogers, 5-7 guard, 2019, Timberview-athletic guard that handles pressure very well, can thread the needle with pinpoint passes, sees floor completely and can score off dribble or with the pull-up jumper
Kinley Brown, 5-9, guard, 2019, Duncanville- gets to basket effortlessly and scores in traffic. Good handles, with either hand and sees floor well, especially under pressure. Can shoot it from outside as well as defend
Tori Gittens, 6-1, forward, 2019, Gunter- her bombs are playing back in my head because she definitely has range worthy of finding with radar. Mixed up numerous times, showing she could hit the pull-up or take it in.
McKenzie Piper, 5-9, guard, 2019, MacArthur– she’s strong and I mean strong and physical. Attacks hard and finishes with ease after taking the lick. Can overpower bigger guards, also creates well under pressure and rebounds strong
Ariyanna Hall, 5-6, guard, 2019, Central– does a lot of athletic things, great head fake to keep defenders guessing which also enables her to score multiple ways and finish with contact. Good rebounder and defender
