FRISCO, Texas- One of my favorite sayings is “ it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and hopefully that’s not too far over some people’s heads but when you’re talking about playing at the next level, what you do against other potential next level players means a little more than just doing it. The Heart of Texas Showcase definitely had some potential next level players and countless locks to play somewhere but this Tip Sheet is focusing on some Under The Radar players that I know can definitely play college basketball and their performances in front of not only me, but more importantly college coaches, sort of sealed what I’ve been saying for many
2018
Jacquia White-5’9 guard (DFW Elite Gold) White has become even more explosive than when I saw her a few weeks ago but her ability to create her shot and nail it from mid to long range as well as running the one and setting teammates up considers to be some of her strong points. That along with her pressure defense was more than solid throughout the event.
D’Asia Collins-5’5 PG (Texas Elite GATA 17U) Collins is coming off a sensational high school season helping lead her Cy Ranch team to the state finals and we all know the game starts at the one. Running the point has always been one of her strongest attributes but she’s mixing up with a variety of offensive weapons, mid to long range and a nice floater, that keeps the defense guessing
Reagan Heun-5’9 guard (Texas Elite GATA 17U) Heun has always been a pressure player and the shooting performance she put on in front of wall to wall college coaches definitely helped her. She dropped four threes in a row one game, two rimmed in and out but I’ve always known she could do that. She has become more than a long ball score, nice midrange and that catch and shoot is on point
JORDAN OTT (CY FAIR PREMIER BLUE)
Jordan Ott-5’10 guard (Cy Fair Premier Blue) Ott was a big guard that could shoot the long ball in the 8th grade and now she’s so much more. Nice midrange game along with attacking the rim for baskets coupled with her size makes her a mismatch waiting to happen. I think what has definitely taken a turn up is her defense as well as her rebounding ability on both ends of the court
Tia Tolbert-5’8 guard (Houston Lady Roadrunners) Tolbert always could score, taking defenders off the dribble early in her career was easy but throughout the years, finishing with contact as well as a deadly mid to long range game has elevated her status. She plays defense and can run the point but as she’s joined a new team for this season, she’s showing that she can get hers in the flow which is huge
Rayven Patin-5’6 PG (New Orleans Lady Trojans) Patin brings it baseline to baseline on both ends off the top and is one of those “never takes a play off” type players. Loves setting teammates up for easy baskets and is vocal on the court but don’t get it twisted, she has shown, especially at this event, that she can take over a game just about whenever she wants. Deadly shooter that scores multiple ways and defends
Mikayla Schenck-5’10 guard (Texas Elite Gauntlet Choice) I guess explosive scorer sums up Schenck’s game, I mean she might play around the world from bta or just blow by defenders for baskets. She’s gotten stronger, finishes after taking the lick but her stop and pop midrange game as well as her defense has taken an upwards turn. Can play both 2 and 3 with her size and ability
2019
Claire Hale-5’9 guard (SA Islanders) First impressions are very important in basketball, especially at exposure events in front of college coaches, so I was simply blown away at her performance because Hale’s video doesn’t do her justice. She’s definitely a scorer, knows how to mix it up from mid to deep or attacking the rim but what she did under pressure and in the clutch sold me even more
2020
Katelyn Levings 6’3 forward (OK Swarm Bluestar 17U) Levings caught my eye at Prime Time Nationals three years ago, sent video out and all bets were off as she’s definitely not Under The Radar anymore, ranked in Top 10 by all the major national services so here’s the deal, at 6’1 she dominated inside early and showed she could handle the ball, under pressure, as well as shoot the three. She’s grown, gotten stronger and definitely has elevated her game as the catch and shoot from long range had the nets singing with no tape at the bottom
2021
Peyton Andrews-5’10 combo (AAO Banshees Future) Andrews caught my eye years ago scoring and rebounding playing the 4/5 and a couple of years later playing the three and shooting the 3 well. Fast forward to now, she continues to grow, both in size and game, as she’s running the 1along with playing some 2. Long ball scoring has never been a problem, nice midrange shooter that rebounds strong on both ends
