It’s All Fair
It’s All Fair
Way back in the 2002-2003 season, Cy Fair lost to eventual state finalist Georgetown in the quarterfinals, a year after former Duke and WNBA star Lindsey Harding graduated. Since then, they have made it to the Regional Final Four every year and for the last four seasons, they have made it to the State Final Four, winning two State Championships.
Many great players have come through the Cy Fair pipeline, including three of the decades top posts, Aubrey Cook, who went on to play at the University of Texas and the Ogwumike sisters, Nneka and Chiney who are at Stanford. To go along with Harding, they also have another one of the decade’s top guards, Cassie Peoples, who will be suiting up for the Longhorns after this season.
Losing a player like Chiney, who is arguably the best high school female basketball player that played in Houston, will make it harder for the Bobcats. After all, she led them to four straight trips to Austin, she was a four time All State selection and she won just about every National award you can name, so there really is no argument.
The ironic part about Cy Fair is that they have won with many different looks, in fact after Cook went down with a knee injury one season, another outstanding guard, Traci Ray, put the team on her back and almost led them to Austin, so year after year, no matter which Region they happen to be in, Cy Fair is usually in the hunt.
This season will be no different and teaming up with Peoples will be Tara Warren and Danika Cervenka, all hoping to make their third straight trip to Austin. The common denominator on all of these teams has been Coach Ann Robique and one thing I am sure of is you can’t count this team out because as their slogan goes, “Bobcat Fight Never Dies”.
