2015 Insiders Hoopfest WNBA Black Tip Sheet

HOUSTON, Texas- The WNBA Black Division had their share of talented players, Cy Fair Premier’s top team, their White, actually switched places due to conflicts including prom and a sports banquet which made me the Owens sisters, Callie and Jaden and let me add that Jaden is one of the top middle school players in the world. Both San Antonio Islanders squads as well as Austin Elite’s team came to Hoopfest shorthanded as well but the bottom line is I had a chance to see many of not only their talented player but all of those who participated in the event. Here is the Tip Sheet from the Black and I’ll close it out with mini stories on the teams from the WNBA over the next few days, but first
2016
Sydney Goodson-guard (Cy Fair Premier White) already committed to Arizona State and I see why. She’s more powerful than she looks and her ability to create and elevate makes that midrange almost automatic. Good defender that has range and her basketball IQ is second to none
Hannah Holt-guard (Houston Premier Elite) her progression left me somewhat speechless after watching her over the weekend. Her athleticism created problems on both ends either by grabbing steals out of midair or attacking and hanging midair for and one opportunities. That midrange was looking pretty good as well
Taylor Hunter-forward (Runnin Rebels) I stated earlier about watching players come back from injuries to where they were and Hunter fit that mode this past weekend. She has a strong body, can be physical or use finesse on the offensive end but is also powerful enough to rebound on both ends. Good range, mid and long
Belle Tovar-guard (San Antonio Islanders Black) she was one of the many reasons I couldn’t stop watching this squad, smart guards that get it done on both ends has always impressed me and she’s one of many on the team. No signs lingering from her energy and if you’re one of the best long ball shooters in the state, well that’s a plus in itself
Mackenzie Johnson-guard (Houstonians) averaged double digits throughout the event and probably was close to a double. The third of the talented sisters I’ve watched since my hair was all black is simply smooth as silk and does thing in the flow. Her shooting keeps getting better but she just is one of those players that analyzes the game well
Taylor Alexander-forward (Houston Lady Dominators) I know she averaged a double-double and the more I watch her the more I’m sold. She extremely strong and athletic and she’s curtailed her energy into something to be reckoned with. I think her desire is what I like even most; she goes after everything on both ends and can finish with contact
Gabby Castillo-guard (Running Gators) one thing I do is give credit where it’s do and Gabby might be the most improved player I saw at the event. She could always shoot but even that’s gotten better as well as her defense. She’s stronger and finishing with contact plus ball handling and decision making have also taken turn upwards
2018
Britteny Onjeye- guard (Austin Elite Black) what’s that old saying “your name precedes you” fits perfectly as I had heard all of the “urban legends” about this track star that could play basketball and they were correct. First step is a killa, good defender on the perimeter and can score multiple ways
Miya Crump-guard/wing (Texas Elite Taylor) I knew she could play but I didn’t realize she could PLAY like this. Crump’s upside is why I’m writing about her, she’s long, athletic and showed she could score against older players with ease. Good mid and long range but again that length makes her trouble either by stealing the ball or attacking the basket
