2015 Insiders Varsity Tip Sheet
HOUSTON, Texas- The Varsity Division of the 2015 Insiders Hoopfest had next level talent spread out over the eight teams in the division, some are locks, some are close and I mean very close but I chose five young ladies from this division for the Varsity Tip Sheet simply because they either separated themselves in some way or they have shown me something I always look for in a player and that’s progression. The good news is that with the exception of Halle Jones and Madison Lucas, the other three are freshman and the better news is that Jones and Lucas are only in the 8th grade
2019
Halle Jones-guard (DFW Elite Houston) lack of confidence has never been a problem plus she had some skills but one thing I thought she needed to turn the corner was speed and intensity and believe me she has turned a corner. She scored multiple ways in the flow and handled the ball under pressure, big ups on her defense
Madison Lucas- guard (Fort Bend Stars) I saw her only once but that one time, as well as the score sheets showed me that it was no fluke. Lucas scores at will, she can get to the basket almost any time she wants and she finishes strong. Numerous steals come her way because she plays the passing lanes well and that crossover she showed me opening day definitely woke me up
2020
Chandler Jones –forward (Houston Premier Orange) another talented player from the @HPhoops franchise simply blew me away. I saw Jones last year and I wrote about her defense, well she’s been working on the other end and what I liked was her ability to create and use her size for the easy buckets as well as improved timing and rebounding
Sierra Fuller-guard (Houston Insiders) Fuller shoots the three with a high accuracy but I told her she needs to attack more and mix it up to have more next level options and she has answered the call. Don’t get it twisted, she can still go off, I’ve already seen her drop eight in a game and two more had she not stepped on the line but her 50 footer at the buzzer was one of the tourney highlights
Tiana Clark-guard (Houstonians) when I speak of progression, Clark definitely comes to mind since I’ve been watching her for around six years already. Her speed is one of her biggest assets and she’s using it under control and creating havoc on defense and that was always something I loved from her game. Now it’s the offense, I’m talking midrange or taking her man off the dribble but even more than that she’s seeing the floor well, let me add under pressure, and making the right decisions
