North Shore back on top after week 2

2014 Shore TI

HOUSTON, Texas- With three big events going on at the same time for the second consecutive week, I had a chance to see a little bit more from some I had seen and take a fresh look at those who will probably be in the hunt before it’s all said and done. I rearranged my unofficial rankings and added Cy Ranch, well placed them and Port Arthur Memorial back in the mix plus a solid Kincaid team that will be one of the favorites in the HISD Tournament. The biggest surprise to many was North Shore defeating Cy Woods in the finals of the Texas Invitational and although I was a bit confused at the seedlings the Mustangs proved I was right even when I wrong for picking them as the preseason favorite off the top. Nevertheless Cy Woods will have another shot in the Peggy Whitley Classic and more than likely in the playoffs and I stand by what I said earlier, these two are ahead of the pack but are beatable.

2014 Ranch FBISD

Cy Ranch put together an impressive Fort Bend ISD title knocking off two Top 10 teams in Hightower and Dekaney, in fact the rematch with Dekaney goes down tomorrow, 11/24 at 1pm at the Ranch but the team that probably impressed more than any other from the area was Kingwood who simply found ways to compete after losing a key player, Charlotte Hodges, the second starter from last season’s squad. Port Arthur Memorial looked unbeatable in the Aldine Invitational however foul trouble in the first half to key players cost them the Aldine Invitational title but they will compete in district with North Shore for the title. I called this “put up or shut up week” for numerous reasons however one thing is for certain, District 19 is the toughest in the area with one team winning an event and another finishing second while the other two I caught, Cy Fair and Cy Falls, definitely took their lumps. I still think Falls can make a run, numerous three point shooters on that squad while the Bobcats are probably the toughest defensive team I’ve seen so far this season
