2014 Big State Flava Tip Sheet
JORDAN DANBERRY for two, well three
DUNCANVILLE, Texas- I’ve always enjoyed coaching and now covering the Big State Flava Jam simply because the talent is somewhat overwhelming with players from not only throughout Texas and across the United States but the Flava has been going international for the past few seasons as the QLD Kangaroos came from “down under” to represent Australia with a very talented group of young ladies.
Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Louisiana represented as well as Ohio, Missouri, Kansas, New Mexico, Florida and California so trying to put together just one Tip Sheet with the amount of talent I saw, probably around 70 teams over the three days, is kind of hard but if you follow how I do it, you’ll know I’ll drop more than the dozen that I chose initially down the road including one for T Jack, another just for DFW Elite, one for Texas and an out of state Tip Sheet. Why not, one for Houston and also for the 2018’s because if you have the Flava, I have the pot, well pen
2015
Dai’Ja Thomas-6’3 forward (United Elite Black)- Sometimes I just shake my head at Thomas’ athleticism because she does things that some guys can’t do. She jumps out of the gym, alters or blocks shots plus can defend from the perimeter to the paint. Oh yeah, she can rebound and score, inside and out
Shanessia Walters- 6’0 forward (Arkansas Hoyas)-She’s at that magic number of six feet and can light you up from outside just anywhere on the floor. Walters is also very athletic and has good body control which comes in handy with her ball handling ability as she can take defenders of the dribble with ease
Jordan Danberry-5’7 guard- (Arkansas Mavericks-Johnson)- Danberry Is one of those players I don’t need to take notes on. I know her game and even when she amazes me I’m not because she can simply turn it on and take over whenever she pleases. A couple of times, it appeared she was suspended in midair to let defenders float by, yes she scored
Kian McNair-5’6 guard (Ballaz HS-1 2015)- First of all, you can’t teach speed and if you could, it wouldn’t be what McNair possesses. She’s one of the fastest guards I’ve seen, with the ball, that can finish at full speed, with either hand. Her ability to blow by defenders was second to one at Flava and she changed the momentum numerous times
ROESHANDA PATTERSON
2016
Sam Rodgers-6’1 guard (All Ohio Peek 15U)-Rodgers did a good job on both ends of the court and her size is definitely a plus as she’s definitely a player that is hard to guard. She’s active throughout the game, can attack from the wing but that midrange was smooth all throughout the tournament
Jordyn Lewis-5’8 guard (New Mexico Select Green 2015)- Savvy ball handler’s always get a thumbs up from me but Lewis simply makes things happen. She can get to the rim almost at will and finish with contact and her almost automatic free throw shooting is almost as huge as her ability to drop the 25 footers with ease
Roeshanda Patterson-5’9 guard (New Way Christian)- Patterson scored 50 in the Homeschool Tournament and didn’t surprise me one bit because she can fill it up fast. I told several coaches to keep an eye on her at Flava and when I returned back I was told she opened the game up with 12 straight. On top of all that, she never takes plays off on either end and is one of the most underrated players in Texas, maybe the country
2017
Alexis Morris-5’6 guard (DFW Elite T Jack)- I enjoy watching what Morris brings to the table as far as energy and entertainment but the most amazing thing she continues to do is dazzle with her ball handling ability buy either breaking the press or setting her teammates up for gimmes not to mention creating quite easily for herself
Priscilla Smeenge-6’1 guard (Cy Fair Elite AC)-Talk about making jumps and progressing, from the time I saw Smeenge in HS, then at a camp and now in club season, she has simply taken her game to another level. She has the size and length to shoot over anyone and that midrange coupled with her being more aggressive has put her in a very good position
Morgen Smith-6’2 post (KC Select Platinum)-This young lady has several things on her side including size and BB-IQ because she simply gets it. She finishes with ease and flair and even showed she could shoot the three but what impressed me even more than all of that was her throwback mentality as she was relentless on the boards
Ana Lianusa-5’11 guard (Oklahoma Select Premier Red)-This young lady is so smooth on the floor and she does things both effortlessly and in the flow. She’s long, can defend and rebound but her athleticism is through the roof and once she gets going, she can simply take a game over, on either end. Good midrange will open up many doors
Jayda Adams-5’11 guard (West Coast Premier Black)- Adams joins a long list of big guards that could score and she showed me she could do it a variety of ways. Off the dribble from the wing, no problem and I’m talking either side and either hand and that midrange was nice also but what sold me even more was her NBA range
