2014 Houston Elite Spring Fling Tip Sheet
Joi and “Juicy”
HOUSTON, Texas- I’m always in search of two things and that’s new faces that show the ability to play at the next level as well as progression from players I’ve already seen. With an overwhelming amount of talent participating in Houston Elite’s Spring Fling, it was great to see just what I was looking for and this is nothing but a good sign on what to expect this season
2015
Joi Simmons-5’8 guard- Houston Elite White– Simmons is simply the glue that holds the squad together. She’s capable of taking games over off the top but understands the importance of getting her teammates involved early which she showed over and over
Jordan Alexandert-6’0 wing-DFW Elite-You have athletic players and then you have Jordan who falls into the “ultra” athletic category. She simply creates problems on both ends with her length and agility not to mention that her offensive game facing the basket has taken a huge jump
Martina Rawls-5’10 wing-Triple D– Rawls simply doesn’t quit and after coming back from a knee injury, her mentality remains the same. She’s aggressive on both ends, knows how to score and can play defense on the perimeter
2016
Calveion Landrum-5’10 guard-DFW Elite– “Juicy” simply just does it and watching her play is contagious so I can only imagine the energy that trickles over to her teammates. Some of her shots are beyond radar detection however talk about players able to take games over, either by putting up numbers or not scoring at all and Landrum is that type of player
Sydney Carr-5’9 guard- Houston Elite White– Three seasons ago I was writing about another player with the SC initials that was 5’3 and she continues to grow on and off the court each season. Carr is a warrior, can fill it up when needed but understands her role. Defense was always good but is even better
Erika Sydney-5’6 guard-Houston Insiders– With an array of offensive weapons at her disposal, Sydney can put up numbers and she dropped 30 in one game every way imaginable. Her ability to score, along with good court sense to go along with her ability to run a team is among the top in her class
2017
Ilya Babineaux-6’0 post-West Houston Elite– The progression she’s shown over two seasons is mind-boggling as she finishes against taller players on a consistent basis. Good hands and footwork are key, has learned to outmaneuver opponents on both ends of the paint
Emer Nichols-6’3 post-Crossover Elite-No lingering effect from her knee injury, in fact Nichols is more fluid offensively, and yeah she’s been working. She’s on the verge of exploding and her improvement offensively shows, especially when she dropped a few from about ten feet
Atlantis Thomas-5’9 wing-DFW Houston– Thomas averaged a double-double over the weekend and simply took me “Back to the Future” with her throwback mentality. She’s a beast in the paint and understands the importance of outworking opponents at a young age
2018
Monet Jones-6’1 wing-Houstonians– Jones is simply one of those players that you can’t miss and her wingspan probably makes her appear even taller. She can not only shoot the long ball but she attacks well from the perimeter and her mid-range game keeps getting better
2019
Corina Carter-5’1 guard- San Antonio Finest– The list of entertaining young players from San Antonio keeps growing and Carter was simply astounding at times. I don’t know what I enjoyed more, watching her handle the ball under pressure or making the spectacular shots after being hit
